NFL QBs

In no particular order:

Johnny Unitas, Roger Staubach, Joe Montana, Fran Tarkington, Dan Marino

Honorable Mentions:

Archie Manning, Roman Gabriel, Johnny Hadl

I don't know how you can leave Elway out of that equation...

1. John Elway (I know it is arguable... but here's where I put him).
2. Joe Montana... (hate it, but I have to admit it).
3. Tom Brady/Peyton Manning
4. Dan Marino
5. Brett Favre

I'm a Cowboy/Bronco fan... but I can't put Rodger over those 5).

(I can't really list those I didn't watch... although there are some GREAT ones out there... Johnny Unitas, Bart Starr, et al).

Never watched Sonny Jergensen.

What's the criteria? Passer rating? Wins? Winning Percentage? Super Bowl titles? Longevity? Come-from-behind wins? Yards per attempt? Completion to interception ratio? Who I liked watching?

:shrugs:

I've been told that I tend to over-analyze things. :grin01:

Dale

1. Tom Brady
2. Joe Montana
3. Peyton Manning
4. Ben Roethlisberger (2 SB wins and counting)
5. Elway/Marino

I'll probably be the only one with Big Ben on my list, but winning is the most important stat. He already has two rings, and who knows, maybe he'll have more than anyone by the end of his career.

BTW, Jay Cutler was just traded the Bears for Kyle Orton, a 1st and 3rd rd pick this year, and a 1st next year.

I agree with you Dale... it is HARD to come up with a list if you don't include some sort of criteria... ie... why is Terry Bradshaw mentioned when he won the same number of SB titles as Montana????

If you include TRIPS to the SB... then you've gotta include Jim Kelly (4 in a ROW).

Using a combined or undetermined set of criteria, I had to put Elway above the rest because of the number of trips to the SB (5), winningest (2nd), come from behind wins (1st or 2nd depending on Favre), etc.

Terry himself said he was an average QB.. but had an awesome receiver pool
Swan, Stallworth, Cunningham, etc.
"I threw it and new 1 of those guys would catch it"
IMO Elway was always over rated too..

I like the over analysis...but yeah i went based off of wins, what they brought to the game, and affect they had on their teams

As with the giant, no particular order:
Marino, Montana, Elway, Tarkenton, Bradshaw, Favre, Unitas, I'd maybe throw in Young.

Brady? Manning? Roethlisburger????!!!! Get serious. Forget Super Bowl Wins. Let's get some longevity under our belt. Let's get some toughness under our belt. Let's get some adversity under our belt. Peyton would be the top of the list of these three since he can actually run the show without the coaches direction. Roethlisburger's waaaay overrated!

I think it's a mixture of many things, but winning is the most important. That's why it's a shame how the pro bowl is voted. Big Ben did'nt even make the pro bowl, but he has that winning edge over most QB's. His intangibles put him in my top 5 all time. His 3rd down efficiency, 4th QTR comebacks, and freakish ways of making big plays after contact put him ahead of the Marino's, Elway's, and other top tier QB's in my opinion.
Great topic though, I love hearing other people's sports opinions!!!

Yeah i didn't think any1 would talk much on it but i love sports that's why why corn is named juice,,,after the QB at Illi...but yeah there are more older guys becuz they didn't ruin their careers where as some that are still playing have a chance to do that still and thank GOD MCNABB ISNT HERE....totally overrated...well injury put him back but i mean just....well just awful

I agree with some of your points, noone even comes close to having the football knowledge that Peyton Manning has. He's really the only self made QB that can't be called the product of a system.
Brady has Belicheck, who made Matt Cassell a house hold name this year. And Roethlisberger has an incredible defense and solid run game. But C'mon, Roethlisberger deserves alot of respect, the man knows how to play football and win. I had this same debate with my brother before the super bowl, and I shared your opinion. He may not play "pretty", but he can make every throw on the field and has that drive to win.
As for Mcnabb, definitely not top 5 material. But he's proven that with a solid WR (T.O), he can be one of the best in the league. He's just never had a consistent receiving core like the Colts, Cardinals, Pats, and Steelers.

And yet, except for not winning the super bowl, McNabb was better than Roethlisburger in every '08 category except yards per pass (7.0 to 6.9) . . . You guys are partially insane. :crazy01:

I think you missed this stat!!!

And I'm talking making plays when it counts, Ben is the best 3rd down player in the league. He makes plays with his athleticism and instincts after contact, unlike Eli who is a statue that has the best O-line in the NFL. Plus, how good was Eli's 3rd down efficiency without 6'5 Plaxico Burress?

mcnabb is more seasoned than big ben...but ben has done more in a shorter period of time than mcnabb...who back in 97 was compared to peyton...which means based on expectations he's awful...which brings up the reason ppl love ben...he blew away his expectations...A rookie going 15-1? amazing in itself
