Nicaraguan Boa

I know this is the corn snake forum and not a boa forum, but I thought Id ask anyways as there are a lot of smart people with snakes that are not corns. If I am in the wrong place, tell me and Ill have a moderator remove the thread

Does anyone have a Nicaraguan Boa, and if so do you have any tips for taking care of one? I am now the proud father of a female named Iris. Ill try and have pics later.

Basically, I have the following questions.

First, I have her in a 20 gallon long aquarium. Is that an appropriate size, and if so how long will she be able to stay in there before she will need a larger aquarium?

Secondly, I am using a UTH linked with a thermostat to control the warm end of the tank. I have the temperature at the warm end at 87-89 degrees. (The cool end is in the low 80s/upper 70s). Is this appropriate, or will I need an additional heating source?

Thirdly, to keep the humidity in the required range I have a large water bowl (expanding the surface area) as well as covering part of the top screen with towels to keep humidity in. I also plan on misting her. What else can I do to make sure that the humidity is ok?

Lastly, at the moment, the cage only has the aspen bedding, a large half log, and the water bowl as decoration. I assumed that she would go into the half log, but she is instead lying out in the open next to the glass when she is not exploring. This is a bad sign in corn snakes, is that a problem with this species?

Thanks, and sorry again if this is in the wrong place

Nice pick up and a great dwarf boa....

Firstly.. This isn't in the wrong place...
A snake lying in the open and not hiding isn't something to worry about IMO.....
An aquarium, although it will keep the snake where you left it, isn't the best choice of housing... A nice viv would be better... Front opening is better than top opening IMO
And I would do away with the UTH (especially with a glass aquarium)
Boas are tropical and need warm air temps to keep RI's at bay...
Although the warm end is registering a temp, that's only the floor.... The air will be much cooler...
If you get a nice viv, look into ceramic bulbs or rep radiators....

The ambient temp for the tank is in the 80s (usually 80-83), as I have been measuring that as well.

That being said, where is a good place to get a vivarium?

I can't help you with that.... Well i could, but as I've said before, the shipping is a killer......
I'm sure some one from your neck of the woods will be along soon with an answer....

Gotta love shipping! I was more than a little bummed yesterday when the Midwest Reptile Expo didnt have anyone selling vivariums/good enclosures. I wound up using the same type of aquarium that has worked so well for my cornsnake-It was without a doubt the best option at the time.

I do have a ceramic heater though (I believe a hundred watts, although I would need to check) that I could link up to the thermostat. Im worried about that killing humidity in the tank though, plus I had a bad experience with a corn snake and ceramic heaters...

Ceramics will not kill humidity.....
You just have to compensate.....
Spray..... Larger water bowl.... Move the water bowl....

I use them with out any problems.....
I like the way they work for tropical species and arboreals.....
With corns, milks etc I use UTH........

For arboreals I put it next to the basking spot on the perch....
For ground huggers, I put it on a nice slate or flag stone... Ground level....
I also have IR thermometers to measure every square inch of viv temps...
