I haven't got my Corn yet but I will be getting it soon maybe tommorow (saturday) or during next week. I am totaly puzzled as to where I put my heat mat I have decided not to use a lamp as I read that it can cause blindness. So I do not know where to put my heat mat and how to set up the dimmie and thermostat. I am using a totally glass tank that used to house a bearded dragon..

Please help:confused:

The heat mat goes under the tank. The Thermostat plugs into a wall outlet and the heatmat plugs into the thermostat.

Put the UTH under the tank, at one end. Put the probe for the thermostat right on top of the glass, in the center of the UTH. You can use a dab of aquarium silicone to hold it there. The aspen will insulate the heat mat. You need to know the temp at the hottest place your snake can get to, which is right on the mat on the glass. Then you set the thermostat to keep the temp at 80-85F. You should have a probed (indoor/outdoor type) thermometer to measure the temp right where the thermostat probe is located. The markings on the thermostat itself are just general. (Unless you have an expensive digital proportional thermostat).

You then put the warm hide over the heat mat area, and the cool hide at the opposite end. It doesn't matter where you put the water bowl, or if you have more than two hides.

What about burnong will the substrate (aspen shavings) absorb some of the heat?

That's why you have a thermostat. Adjust it so that the temperature is at a level where the snake won't get a burn if it burrows under the aspen and comes into contact with the glass. I like to put a thermometer probe under the aspen right against the glass to make sure the temp is not hot enough to burn. Try to keep the temp on the glass below 90.
