Normal types?

RowanRR

Delighted long enough.
Hello,
My friend and I were in an exotics store the other day looking at the reptiles, and I found a corn that looked to be black with orange motley-looking spots (iI'm trying to write this from memory- I didn't have a camera on me so I can't show a picture). My friend said it was a normal, but the normals I've been looking at online look nothing like it. Are there different types of normals? What is a Halloween morph? Thanks!

"Normal" simply means not exhibiting a recessive trait. Corns vary in appearance on average depending on where they are found, and individuals can still vary wildly within a given population. If that animal is a motley, there will be no checkers on the belly. Just look at the underside.

If a hatchling, I agree with Danielle - Normals can be a range of colours and some can appear very dark. They gradually change as they grow up and tend to end up the more usual colour schemes of oranges and browns. Having said that, if it's a Normal Motley they're always rather pretty to my eye.

I've never heard of a "Halloween" Corn. Unless one of the major breeders has been working on something top secret and has a particularly whimsical imagination, I'd assume it's a name that's been invented to add a few bucks to an otherwise bog-standard Corn at this time of year. Any chance of a photo?

The Halloween corn is a selectively bred variety of Okeetee phase that Graham (StrangeCargo) is hoping to reproduce. He has an awesome Okeetee corn with wickedly wide saddle bands that almost covers the entire saddle, making the snake look mostly orange and black. Here's a link:

Hooo! Nice. I stand corrected - thanks Susan!

Thanks everyone for the responses- he was pretty young, so I suppose he'll just lighten up with age. And thank you, Susan, for posting that link- I read about them somewhere on this forum and I was wondering what they looked like. Now I know!
