November Hognose Hatching

DeadMouse

Hungry, hungry Hognose!
Yay! My unexpected double clutch of Anaconda x Blond/Stripe phase has finally started to hatch out. Unfortunately only 4 eggs out of the 13 originally laid survived, some had major fungus issues which were treated but without any remediation and the others, who knows... :shrugs:

So far 2 have completely come out of the eggs, 1 Anaconda and 1 Normal. I can't wait to see what the other 2 are.

Mother - Blond Phase and mysterious Stripe gene carrier:

Here's a bigger picture of him:

Here's one of his siblings from the 1st clutch that was hatched out in September:

It's still amazing to me how variable the Anaconda gene is, even when coming from the exact same gene pool.

Thanks for looking! :)

oh what sweeties!

Thank you! We love em all, hognose that is. That first born took it upon himself to fling pee and musk on me last night when I was moving him from the incubating container to his own personal confines. If that isn't love, I don't know what is.

How exciting!!! The older sibling is gorgeous!!!

Thanks Nanci! I was extremely taken aback when I saw that older sibling hatch out. I was half expecting something interesting considering what the mother has been producing but I never expected anything like that! There's one other sibling from that 1st clutch that also has the same kind of patterning or lessening of but the others from that first clutch look more like this November one.

I can't wait to see what F2's will produce from this line. I just love playing with genetics! :D

Congrats! The little guy in there looks great! Post pics of the others ones when they hatch!

Awesome look! At a glance it looks more like a rattler than a hoggie! I wish you good luck with the genetic lottery on the next two! Can't wait to see.

Was your mouth open at the time?? :sidestep:

Thanks! I'll definitely take some more pics as they so far seem very different from each other. Interestingly enough, the very first Anacondas that I hatched out from a different female all looked pretty much the same, but these ones from this Blond phase female really have a high variance. It's really strange and yet exciting!

Thanks Chip! Honestly, that's what kind of sold my wife on hognose to begin with, they kind of reminded her of rattlesnakes with the keeled scales, stout body and that really hard look they can give you when they mean business.

The 3rd one out of the egg was another Anaconda, one that kind of looks more like the 1st clutch sibling I showed here. I can't wait to see what the last egg is. Even if it's another normal, I think I'd be hitting the ratio pretty good at 50%. Heck, the first clutch was 5 Anacondas out of 6 hatched eggs. I got really lucky with those. :)

You know, I've been fortunate so far not to have had that happen. Of course now you've made me jinx myself, I'm sure the next time one decides to squirt me, it will be all over my face. :puke02: If that happens, I'll owe you one! ;)
