My snake is in the BLUE!!! (is that how you say it?) Since his last feeding 5 days ago he has been doing nothing but hiding, i noticed his skin color getting dull.. yesterday his eyes were still clear but today they are BLUE! Im so excited for the lil guy.. he just ate his two pinkies and im fixing to put him back in his home.
Some say that snakes don't eat during the blue phase, but he ate normally.. guess im pretty lucky. So i know now that he will clear up in a few days and then after he gets clear he should shed about 5 days after that.. Wish me luck!!!!

Ok.. i live in Florida so im pretty sure its humid enough, but i do run the central AC 24/7 (Thermostats usually set on 75-78) So im hoping it won't dry it out... im wondering if i should create a moist hide or should i just wait and see how it goes?

OH.. and i finally switched the reptile carpet out for aspen shavings... he seems to really like it.. and it smells mucho better.

wish me luck with my first shed.
 
Hi Ashely.
I live in South Jersey the humidity is usually high her but I still make/use a humid hide for my snakes. I use a little damp moss under there hide, only when they go into blue. And take it out when they shed.

I'd wait and see how it goes. I'd also buy a thermometer/hygrometer combo so I wouldn't have to worry about humidity (50%+ is cool).

We are in Florida as well, South Florida, humid as hell.... we mist our babies once or twice a day... after a while i got to know who needs more... i have one that gets a bath once during blue phase...

I'm an AC addict, and my hygrometer reads about 26% in my apartment most of the time. All of my snakes are in Sterilite tubs, and even before I got my Animal Plastics rack, humidity in the tubs was at least 60%. The only source of humidity was the water bowl, and it was placed on the cool side. In the rack, humidity reaches the 80s with only the water bowl for humidity. I actually had to increase ventilation in the tubs to keep it below 90%. I've had 21 perfect sheds (and zero sheds of more than one piece) from my corns under one of these conditions or the other since April.

well i figure ill let him keep the first one at least as a record of our first snake. Im sure we won't keep every one.. and im sure hell get tired of it after a while..lol.
 
There is someone on this board (can't remember who), who framed their first sheds in a shadow box...thought that sounded kinda cool... :cool:
 
I kept my first snakes first shed. Now i compare all his sheds to the first one..

almost 5 inches in a few months.... not bad i guess, for a picky eater... he also got girthy..

I think it was coyote. But she also said that the sheds did not hold up well over time. They are pretty fragile after they completely dry out.
 
I must be reeeally sad, I've kept every complete shed he's had in 5 years, and the larger ones aren't too fragile either. It's startling to compare new ones to the first (I've got a beast on my hands over here, no exaggeration!). Never thought of framing any though, hmmm....! :)
 
I've kept my amels sheds too_One was 14 inches long,the other was about 12.5 inches,just to compare them to the next shed skin so i can guess how much they have grown.I will probably keep them for the lifespans of the snakes so i'd better start thinking of where to keep them!

I keep first skins from newly-aquired snakes, but that's it. For monitoring growth, I track their lengths (using Serpwidget's program), and more importantly, their gram weights in my records system. Sheds give a rough idea of growth, but I love it when I can look at my records and say: "Hey, this little guy tripled his weight in five weeks!"
 
are sheds froma normall colored corn colored? i just thought thic cus some in the picture look colored. my is amel and none look colored. hmmmm
 
The sheds in my picture are from an Okeetee phase, an Anery A, and a Coral Snow. The ones from the Anery and Okeetee phase look almost identical - dark gray with clear places. The one from the Coral Snow is white. And I just got the first one from my hypo last night, it's a clearish light tan.
