"Quality Before Quantity"
Hi Everyone,
We decided to do a few Kingsnake pairings this season. We have our first clutch out of the egg, shed and fed. This pairing was from a Black & White banded Cali x Blue Eyed Blonde Cali. I noticed this guy was pretty different from the second I laid eyes on him. I have asked a few people in the Kingsnake world to help identify him (including Joe Novak a.k.a. CaptBogart) and the consensus was that this guy is a Blue Eyed Blonde. We got a couple of surprises in this clutch as I assumed breeding a banded to a banded would yield all banded babies. Nope. Half the clutch are banded and the others consist of a nice single stripe, a dot-dot-dash, and an extremely aberrant one. The second nice surprise was the fact that they are het albino as a nice pin-banded Albino popped up. The third surprise was the last one in the clutch. I believe it could be a Blue Eyed Blonde but I am not sure. I have a hard time believing that the Normal female could be het for this trait so this would mean that whatever causes Blue Eyed Blonde is a co-dom trait (I really hate that term). Which would inturn possibly mean that there could be a "super" form of this mutation if two were bred together. I have passed it's picture around to a couple of people and one person said it could possibly be a Ruby Eyed Chocolate and if it was it was the first one he had ever seen. Whatever he is I think he is pretty neat and worth keeping back for a bit just to see what he will turn into. Here are a few pictures of the parents and the in question. Anyone who might be into Cali King genetics with information as to what this may be is welcome you to chime in. Thanks for looking and I hope you like.
