Alien Lover
Nice chickies! I love roosters crowing. I had this chicken, a banty hen that my daughter "stole" from the pig farmer across the street. Her name was Jewel Bird. We wanted her to lay fertile eggs, so we borrowed his rooster, who was NOT tame like Jewel. I hoped he would hang out in the barn, but the second we let him out, he took off for the woods and was gone. I could hear him crowing that evening, though, and I got the Strike Team together and formed a plan. We spotted him roosting in a tree- low enough to the ground to reach. We waited for dark to fall, then snuck up on him very quietly. When I was sure he was within reach, I grabbed him out of the tree. He immediately started SCREAMING as if he thought it was his last moments on earth, and would not stop! I carried him to the porch steps, cuddling him, telling him it was ok, I wasn't going to hurt him, and he finally stopped. After that, he lived in a large dog crate, and Jewel Bird went for several conjugal visits, and then Mr. Rooster was retuned to the pig farm.
