Breeding Questions...

Is it a good idea to breed an Albino and Candy cane?

How old do snakes have to be to breed? :grin01:

Thank you!

Yeah, thanks..And do you think it's a good idea to breed a Candy cane corn and an albino creamsicle..or something...><

*sniffs around*

It smells like InSaNe PeNgUiN in here....or maybe I just feel a new one coming on.

Okay, I'm not sure I'm really qualified to answer this since I don't even have a corn, never mind know anything about breeding them, but I believe you need to consider a number of things before breeding anything....

Do you have the time, equipment and money to take care of the eggs/hatchlings?

Have you researched how to incubate the eggs and care for the hatchlings? Do you know how to get reluctant feeders eating?

What are you planning to do with the hatchlings? Sell them? Give them away? To who? You need to have that in place in advance so you don't end up with lots of snakes you don't know what to do with...Or are you going to keep them yourself? Do you have the room and money etc to look after what could be 20+ snakes?

Are you prepared for vet visits/bills if there are any complications with the mother (egg binding) or problems with any of the hatchlings?

I guess if you have the answers to all of these questions and know WHY you actually want to do this in the first place then breeding may be for you...

I think I should also mention that creamsicles are not 100% corn snake so if you are giving the hatchlings away or selling them, you will need to tell the new owners.

I hope that helps, like I said, I don't have any experience to base this on, its just my opinion :)

This may be a more appropriate question for the Breeding subforum, for future reference. And there's probably a more appropriate title for this thread than "omfg!! Agh" if you want people to take you seriously.

Rarrr

Pissy....u_u

Neither of the snakes are old enough yet, so when the time comes to breed them....if they are both not the same sex.

Then we will work things out with the incubating, and the storage of the "20" snakes.

You have 20 snakes!
I agree with Serp, it's not a good idea to breed anything.

Heh....wtf? :sidestep:

Alright, I'm not really one to talk considering I am new to this hobby, but judging from your rep power and number of posts you seem to be just getting started with corn snakes.

I think you should evaluate why you want to get into this hobby. Is it just to breed? Make sure you're adequately prepared to care for one snake before you think about creating more. StubbyUK makes some good points.

Sorry if this seems like a harsh post, it's not ment to be. I just think that it might be jumping the gun a bit for a new hobbiest to think about breeding right away.

Just my oppinion, take it or leave it.

Oh.

Yes I am new at this.....snake thing.

But I all I was wondering was if it was idea to breed those two kinds of snakes..

Because a friend and I each own a corn.. And we thought it'd be cool, and fun to breed them.
