C02 euthanasia
Since I will also have to deal with putting down older rodents in the near future, I decided to do a bit of online research and found this interesting link: http://www.alysion.org/euthanasia/
So far, I've used the freezer method for young babies and it makes me feel so bad to close the freezer lid and still hear them chirping. At one point, I checked on them to see if they had passed and they were still slowly moving, but no longer chirping. Poor little things.
The dry ice method makes me a bit nervous due to it's potentially dangerous activity if improperly handled (I have curious teens at home) so I'd rather use vinegar and baking soda as it is also readily available in my kitchen. The link mentioned above includes very detailed information and looks relatively easy to do (and cheap too).
