I'm so nervous! Just wondering what everyone thinks!

((Note: Attempt two. Pictures in the last one were waaaayyy too huge! This time I'm using the preview button!))

I am a TERRIBLE photographer myself...

but hubby has been showing me what is wrong with various photos for many years, so...

I like the kitty a lot, but I think maybe the shadow on his face, especially on the left side, might be a little distracting. You can't see the left eye because it is dark, and there is a shadow on his neck. OTOH, maybe the judges will consider it an artistic use of light and shadow!

I personally like the bear photo because the deep shadow makes a cool silhouette of it. Makes it mysterious.

The baby is TOO CUTE! Who wouldn't like that one? But I do like the cool, weird effect of the blue reflections in the computer enhanced version.

The plants are nice, but the main one that catches my eye is the last one -looks like a starburst or fireworks at night. Cool!

Not sure what to say about the boat. Interesting lines in all of the rigging and such. But for some reason it doesn't grab me as much as the others - maybe because I am more of an animal person.

Nice photos! It would be great if the judges would actually give constructive criticism, instead of just sticking a ribbon on the best ones. Presumably, they are much better at photography than I am (at least I sure HOPE so!), and could give more helpful opinions on what to do for improvement (there is almost ALWAYS room for improvement, even in the winning photos).

Hope you do great at the contest - let us know which ones get winning ribbons!

I didn't really notice that! The cat was adorable, but wasn't a perfect model at all times. She preferred to climb up into my lap and drool all over me.

Believe it or not, the bear one was one of the first pictures I took. And kinda got me into photography in the first place. My Photographer Uncle was up to visit and while I was showing him our town's 'Bear Buffet' there was a bear really close on my side of the road. Like ten feet away or less. I rolled down my window, nabbed his camera and took a bunch of pictures. He didn't get the camera back until he left, and I knew I had to get one of my own.

I love it when friends let me photograph their babies. XD

The last 'flower' picture is actually fireworks. My town has a local Celebration once a year and I took my camera down to it. I kinda lucked out on this one, actually. I didn't know about the 'bulb' setting on my camera.

I'm not 100% sure about the boat, either. I like it, or I wouldn't have picked it, but I could/should probably do a picture of the mountains instead.

I'm hoping they are too. This is my first year entering! Previous winners have always been pretty good, but it -is- volunteer judges. And I will, of course, let you know which ones win! (I just wish I wasn't working the day of the fair!)

Definitely my favorite. Good luck!

:D

Haha! Guess I had flowers on the brain! I see that now. I somehow had this vision of a flower that was releasing some kind of pollen - thought that was pretty cool. You always hear that people see what they want to see - true! But I like it as fireworks too!

Hubby is always complaining about unwanted shadows and uneven lighting in his photos. He often doesn't see it when he takes the photo - just when he looks at it later. So he takes LOTS of the same thing, and often some will have better lighting than others. The trick is to edit them. So many friends and family take a jillion photos, just like he does. But then they send them ALL, so you have to look at 20 photos of almost the same exact thing, instead of the one or two VERY BEST ones.

Have fun with the contest!

OMGGGG!

I can't remember which ones won and which ones didn't, but the Tomatoes one came in first place, and THIRD overall of the Adult Entry photos! More detail tomorrow after I go pick them up!

Great! It's nice to have verification of your talents. Third overall and the entries were probably from some very good photographers, I'd be proud of that!

oh wow! They're all nice but I REALLY like the tomatoes. I work at a garden center and seeing happy healthy plants with water droplets always makes me happy. ^___^
