Otis needs help guys

For one I went and got the smallest pinkies I could find, made sure to warm it up as much as I could without it being too warm, then I took Otis out and didn't bother with weighing or anything as to not cause him more stress!! He must have just been ready because I just put him in the feeder tank, put the pinky in and covered the whole thing with a towel and left him in a quiet, dark room!! I went back 45 mins later and he had just started so I took the pic and dashed out of there to give him room!!

well there ya go.

Maybe that's how he wants to be fed. Just do that again next time.

He looks good in the picture so try not to worry too much. I'm sure he will do just fine.

I'm so happy for you and Otis. Looks like you've found what he needs to feel safe to eat! Congrats.

He is a super jumpy guy so maybe he just never felt comfortable enough to eat!! When I got him at "the breeder" he was in a tiny tank with 5 other snakes his size so he led a stressful life before he came to me!! He's calmed down a lot since I got him but I guess he still feels stressed!! I'm going to keep doing this and hopefully once I get his size and weight in check I can work on his jumpiness!!

I'm so glad for you and Otis. I've been sending prayers since I first saw your post.

I wouldn't change what is working, but the whole thing about putting a baby snake in a feeding container is to confine the snake with the prey. Typically, it's a very small container- a deli cup or margarine container. Not a large bare small vivarium.

You don't have to worry about heating the prey too hot. I thaw pinks in the hottest tap water I have, and feed them right like that.

Also, it doesn't look like your pink is slit. It greatly increases the attractiveness of the prey, as well as the digestibility, by cutting several small slits through the skull and back skin of the pink.

Glad Otis is eating again!

It's funny because I slit the one I tried a few days back and it seemed like he didn't like the blood lol so he's kinda different from most I think

I am so proud to say that I just weighed Otis and according to the scale he has gained 2g since his last feeding 5 days ago!! He is also currently devouring a 2g pinky!!!! YAY OTIS

Nicole

He only weighs 15g! I'm going to try the paper bag thing tonight! I'm so worried! The breeder told me he was born in October so if that's true he is so under weight if I compare him to what Bella weighed at that age!! He's too small to feed anything but pinkies! What is that powder called that people sprinkle on the food to give them more nutrition?

Nicole
I'm no expert, but my corn was born at the end of September and is only 14g. I got him back in March and he was 11g. I've had one regurgitation incident because I got over zealous with handling him. I said all that to say this: 15g really isn't that bad and not feeding for a week is not all that uncommon. I should have paid closer attention to the feeding records the reptile store kept, because they were only feeding him about once every 15 to 20 days! I'm following the Munson plan now to try to get the little guy to fatten up.

If your vet didn't find anything wrong that's a good sign. I'd just leave him completely alone for a few days to prevent any stress and then put a warm pinkie in his hide for the night.

With feeding in his hide the only thing I really worry about is him ingesting any substrate! When I feed him in the feeder tank I always put a towel over it so he has some privacy but I guess I could put a paper towel in his hide or something

Nicole
I put a paper towel over the substrate, then put the pinkie and the hide on the paper towel.

I guess I should've read the entire thread before giving my .02. Please forgive me; they were my first posts to this group.
