Our first corn snake!

Lol, well Im looking forward for any kind with stripes or zigzag or anything,
...I might want to get me, maybe, a anery zigzag or stripe...I LOVE stripes...
I love my corn more than anything else lol.

Shows you how much I know! I didn't know they had zigzag patterns! The breeder we got Jackie from has a couple with stripes. One is a vanishing stripe. LOL... I only know that because he was showing me photos of them online!

I am really enjoying our corn now that she is not "rude"! LOL I can reach in and basically just pick her up. Some days are easier than others, BUT she was just born in June (around the 11th) so she is still a baby baby!

Awe I know how that is..well, I bought my corn straight from Petco...
I know it was dangerous to do that, but my corn haven't had ANY kind of problem...
I had been taking good care of him. :)
When I got him, he never had been aggresive or anything like that, he's just
sweetheart. I've learnt that ALOT of problem always occur when you buy
straight from the local retail pet store.
I am so lucky that my snake is still healthy. :)

We almost got a snake from petco (or was it Pet Smart), but it was a boa, and I had heard that boas are NOT for beginner pet owners. How long have you had Ophion?

I've had Ophion for over a year...
he's pretty growing big but I know that he's not like the
bigger one that you have seeen on this site for over a year..
I've admited it that I forgot to feed him for few weeks..
because I've been busy with work...
right now, I am working my way up to get him to get bigger lol....

LOL. Nothing is bad as someone I know who when we were younger forgot to feed her king snake for a MONTH! Yep, a month. She was 16 at the time, but still! Does feeding more often make them grow faster? Jackie gets fed a pinkie every Saturday, and she has doubled in size in the 6 weeks we have had her. Are they like kids, and their growth rate will slow down?

nonoo, they grows like weed...seriously they do, um..according to my username..JoshnJJ..
JJ was my ex-girlfriend, but we were together when we started this account...
but we both had different corn snake..she have snow corn..
Her snake is like 2 times bigger than mine, because she kept up with feeding her every weekly...I am jealous of her!

Sorry to hear about the break up. Those are hard!!! If you start feeding more often will he catch up in size? Is there an age where they stop growing?

lol, well...I guess it stop growing after 4 to 5 feet long..
Eh I am doing alright through 2 years relationship with her,
we are best buddy now...
I believe that if you feed every weekly, and it would grow..

Well, I know it's hard, but you'll make it through. At least, you two are still friends. I imagine that it could make things almost harder seeing her often still. IDK, never been in that place.

4 to 5 feet. hehehehe, Jackie will be fun to tease my husband with at that size. He's scared now! ;) Yes, I can be mean, but all in fun!

Haha...well actually me and my ex are really good friends, it has been a year that we broke up this month, but Im doing great though, just enjoying life, meeting alot of girls.
I SO can't wait for my snake to get that big!
:)

Time heals all wounds! :) Glad that everything went smoothly for you, and it sounds like you are having fun so that is GREAT! :)

HAHA, it will be great when Ophion is grown, and you can test all of your gf. Be like hold my snake for a minute, and if they freak out, you know they aren't the one for you!! HAHA Esp. if you plan on breeding snakes.

HAHA, I've done that before.....I kept telling them that they need to hold my snake and see how it feels...it's not slimy, it won't bite, and stuff like that.
I've had a girl who held my tarantula before...

I've thought about breeding, but I won't breed my ophion, he's non-breeder..
I would rather get each adults at that point.
But adults are really expensive....

1. why is your corn a non-breeder
2. If you didn't want to breed your current snake, you could get a hatchling male and raise it to one year, and buy a 3 year old female!

why would you only buy adults? i raised my female up and my male i got at one year, and i got 15 nice eggs out of them!!

Very nice first baby!! I must warn you...we started with one (a found one at that, see my post in the intro section!), now we have 23! Most are babies we are hoping to breed in a few years. Anyway, you asked about genetics. The "bible" for that is the Cornsnake Morph Guide, 2009 edition. VMS still has 3 available (vmsherp.com) (and no, I'm not affiliated with them!). Ours is used all the time to see what's what, and I learned an awful lot from it. BTW, the way you can tell that Jackie is not a motley is by her belly checkers. Motleys have clear bellies.

Cheers!

Lesley

and i would consider getting kathy love's book "Cornsnakes: the comprehensive owners guide"
it can be found at her site cornucopia.com

That is actually what my husband (yes the one who is scared of snakes) wants to do... get a few adults when we are ready to breed.
