Our first scorpion (red clawed scorpion)

Well iv been debating for a long time weather to get a Tarantula or a scorpion, and after lots of research and hunting around for something i really like, we decided on a red clawed scorpion (P.Cavimanus)
We decided to call Him/her Ebony, they are slightly more aggressive than the Emperor scorps, but i didn't really buy him/her for handling, they are just so fascinating.

He looks quite mad in the third pic.
Do they really make that "rattling" sound you hear in movies?

"Her"
just to let you know

And I don't think she's a red claw (Pandinus cavimanus), but an Emperor (Pandinus imperator). Red claws tend to be more red toned throughout their body and especially their legs. Chela tends to be smoother in P. cavimanus as well, almost as if they've been polished a bit.

I don't know, Isaac. You're spot on about P. Cavimanus being more vibrant red throughout, but she's a lot more light in color/reddish in color than what you'd see out of most typical Imperators. Especially in the underbelly picture, I've never seen an Emp. that light or red (NOT that I've seen a bunch).

I wonder if she's just duller in color than usual due to an impending molt, perhaps?

Either way, she's a nice looking scorpion, Wayne. :)

Okay, now I'm second guessing myself. God...

I don't know now. I know Imperators and Cavimanus look a lot alike in regards to body size, shape, etc, but...it really looks like an Imperator now. :awcrap:

Wayne, did you pick it up from a petstore, or local breader, or...?

Do Scorpions molt? My friend Adam had either a dead Scorpion or a molt of one sitting out on his coffee table. I'm not freaked out very easily (I own Spiders and such), but for some reason seeing that there just laying out in the open gave me a bad case of the shakes! Of course that was until I found out it wasn't alive. I got over the shock relatively quickly, but I still cannot think of why it gave me such a fright.

Cool lady.

She's 100% P. Cavimanus brought from a reputable breeder, she is quite dark in colour. They are very sim. to the Emp. scorp. But the red clawed are slightly more aggressive.

What are you talking about?
Isn't it obvious she just wants a hug?:sidestep:Lol

Yeah they do make a slight hissing noise when they get really deffensive. Its called stridulation. Basically the same purpose as a snakes hiss except its made by rubbing things together (think crickets) rather than puffing air.

Beautiful scorp!
