I can't believe it, I woke up this weekend to find my snake missing from his cage.. after his shed. He's a creamsicle, about 9 months old. Any suggestions on what I should do ???!?!
 
there are many many many past posts on escapees... chances are it'll be somewhere warm within your house i.e. stove, in a sofa, under the fridge.
 
Don't panic is the first thing. That is one of the worst things you can do. Relax and think. BMueller77 was right on, as far as places to look. Start looking in warm areas, especially in the room he was housed in. Check everywhere and if you think he can't get into something, check anyways. Then fan out into different rooms from there working from the room and moving away. Find some painters tape that is not very sticky and place it, sticky side up, along walls and other edges.

Get a flashlight and check everywhere, he is probably with in 20ft of the cage. I found mine in a shoe, in the closet. My sister found her BP in a stereo speaker. He crawled right in the port hole. Baby powder lines on the floor can help also. Good Luck
 
this might sound silly, but this is the way i would do it...

turn all the lights off and sit in the dark with a flash light. switch it on now and agian for a look. it might come looking for you.

When I've had an escapee (three times, different snakes...turns out those boxes aren't escape proof for the little un's), I follow walls, I walk along from the viv/tub along with the wall looking everywhere...try warm places, strange places (like in shoes, bags etc). Don't just pick up and move things to look underneath, look in them etc. I spent a lot more time than I needed to a few weeks ago because I lifted an aspen bale to look behind it...when the snake was IN the bag.

How long has the snake been missing and are the doors in your house close to the ground or would he be able to go under? You can look everywhere in certain parts of the house and close doors off if he can't fit underneath.
 
all my house doors can be crawled under, so it just makes me sad to think he could be anywhere.. it's a 2 story house with tons of hiding spots and it would literally take me the whole day to just look for him, I don't have that kind of time :(... It's been missing for 3 days now, so I'm afraid it's going to be too late when I find him ( someday ) by smelling his rotten corpse ( worst case scenario ) I will try all the above..
 
You would be surprised how long they can live in your home. When I was younger I had a garter for years. One day he too got out and I thought that was it he would be gone forvever. More than 6 months later we found him behind a sugar jar much fatter and perfectly healthy. Leave a mouse out tonight in your room on a piece of tinfoil, maybe he will come and eat it- hope he turns up!

Please don't give up hope. I totally get the time thing, but I've read lots of positive outcomes like Danielle's. One girl found her snake in her undies draw. I'm glad I read all the good posts because if ever Samson gets out I'll at least feel like I have somewhere to start.

I don't mean for this to sound like an insult, but are you certain that the snake isn't in an odd spot in his viv? More than one person has thought they had an escapee when what they had was an excellent hider in an unusual spot in the viv. Small holes in viv decor items can serve as unintentional hides.

If he's really out, be calm and follow the recommendations given. Do a search for other recommendations, like putting the viv on its side against the wall, baiting him, or building a funnel trap with a 2-L bottle. Odds are good that you'll find your snake in the same room as the viv if you act fast (24 hours or so).

hi there i would advise buliding a funnel trap they are very good cut the top of a large coke bottle off about a third of the way down then insert the lid end into the bottom section obviously with the lid off!!! build a few and leave them dotted around your house chances are your snake will find one and crawl in and most likely the snake will nose the sides and not get out and will get bored and fall asleep in there it worked for my escapee not so long ago, also try putting flour around the bottom of the walls if the snake passes through it will leave tracks chances are its not too far away, failing that and i dont reccomend this but have been assured it is effective leave scrunched up balls of masking tape (nothing stronger or stickier than that !!!!) all over the house if ur snake findsone it will stick to it and just stay there and as its only masking tape u will not hurt snake when taking it off, also leave things like two cans on top of each other on thr floor everywhere hopefully your snake will topple them over and u will hear it, erm apart from that all i can think of is leave the viv on the floor near a wall on its side corns are adventurous but once they do escape all they want to do is get back home to there viv, hope this advice helps please keep me posted hope u find ur snake good luck

I had a ceramic bowl once where the bottom wasnt flush to the tank bottom. Well I thought I had an escape and after the entire day I picked up that water bowl and BAM there she was, inside, the bottom of the bowl. Forget getting her out, I had to turn it on its side and just wait for her to come out on her own. My finger couldnt even fit in there.
 
Here's a story for you:

When I had my corn for one year or so he got out. I was terrified, especially since my room was in a basement where its rarely above 70 degrees. I spent the weekend looking for him, as well as a day of skipping school. I tried to make 'hot spots' in the basement area which would hopefully attract him. That idea failed. After two weeks I had given up hope. One day my mom was putzing around in my room and started yelling "I found your snake!!" It turns my little buddy was hiding no more than 6 feet away from cage at the time, high up on a shelf. We assumed he fell down and ran away, but nope, he's a climber.

Here I am over five years later with him. He's gotten out two more times since then, but all three times he was in the general area of the cage's location.
 
Speechless...... soooo relieved, while coming home from work, I called my brother to order me some take out.. I picked up the food, came home than realized that our Ivy plants weren't fed.. So I water the plants and look inside one of the pots ( out of curiosity ) ............... AND THERE MY BEAUTIFUL CREAMSICLE SNAKE was just coiled up soo cute. It's funny because my plants arn't anywhere near his VIV ( downstairs) I was shocked to find him there.. and how he survived the week without heat or water ?! My home gets fairly cold at night ( 65-70 ) Thanks for all your support :)
 
Thats sweet I fear mine getting out with one of my dogs they wouldn't stand a chance- my dumb lab would just lick them to death- but the rat dog would feast for sure. Looks like your little one found a great spot and all is well.
