just a quick question. my parents just bought a paper shredder today and i was wondering if it was okay to use shredded paper as a substrate? i dont see any problems myself but i wasnt sure. (i'll probably use it with the snake and mice cages)
I dont think there would be a problem as long as there werent any chemicals in the ink that would irrittate their skin... maybe do a google search, unless someone else knows off the top of thier head
No the ink wouldnt harm them at all, i know lots of people who use newspaper as substrate. i searched google and it said mice really love shreaded paper, but they also said it was kinda hard to clean up.. but its perfectly safe for them.
I've got two '07s on shredded paper at the moment and they seem to love it, but I have to admit, I've been a bit choosy about which shredded paper I use. I tend to make lots of lists and notes on the thinner writing paper (which feels softer once shredded) and it's this that I use as substrate
Most of the inks used in the newspaper are vegetable oil based so that is no problem. I have used shredded paper for both mice and snakes and thought it worked well.
I was in a pet store once that had shredded paper in all the cages. They used different colors of paper for each and it looked kind of neat.
