partial shed

xerxes

addict
finally!....xerxes shed today, after being in the clear stage for four days he finally shed. lil problem is that he shed in three pieces. and after looking him over i dont see any skin left but i was wondering if there was any extra skin, how obvious is it?

it should be pretty obvious.. xerxes should have a beautiful color where he shed.. the old skin should look very dull and almost no color to it.

Plus you might see pieces hanging off. It is ok for your snake to shed in multiple pieces. You could try upping the humidity or the heat when in shed to help them along, but not all snakes shed in one piece. My BP for instance takes at least 15 days from start to finish and she has never shed in one piece since the day I got her. and my humidity and heat are perfect for her in her terrarium. you can also try spraying the bedding, but only use that as a last ditch effort. You can also let them swim in the bath tub, just make sure the water is warm (*NOT HOT*) and YOU MUST REMEMBER TO USE A DRAIN STOP AND OBSERVE THEM AT ALL TIMES.:grabbit:

If they are three complete pieces don't worry. If you see any shredded skin on those pieces then warm up a wash cloth with some water and let your snake run through it.

Just to be sure check the tip of his tail. Make sure the tip is off, if it is you're golden. If it's not use the warm wash cloth method until it is removed. It's important, because if that piece stays connected the tip of your snake's tail could loose circulation and fall off.

there is a very small piece on the tip of his tail, its reversed, so it's kinda dragging behind, no risk of cutting off circulation, but should i remove it so it doesnt irritate him?

Well yes there is still a risk of cutting off circulation, just soak the tail tip or get a good soaked terry cloth and rub it gently off.

That's exactly the scenario that causes a lot of snakes' tail tips to come off. Help him get it off.
