So I get a call today from my boyfriends sister.. She's freaking out telling me to remove a few pics from my facebook as soon as possible.. She works at a hospital and was online on facebook looking at my pictures when I guess one of the hospital social workers sees the pics and freaks out. I guess the picture of my baby holding a ball python for the first time and one of Talise with her first bite mark have alerted her and she supposedly has to, by law, report it to CPS... WTH????? I am not all that worried as I know cornsnakes and ball pythons pose no threat to my kids.. But man it pissed me off.. I did remove the pics, for now, just in case.. I HATE dumb people... Seriously..

OMGosh. My heart just sunk. I really hope for your sake that this was just a retarded threat and she doesn't fallow through. Some people are just so ignorant.

some people must have it easy if they have time to worry about your life, haha I hope all goes well and nothing bad can happen unless you want the pet put down for biting your child

Personally I wouldn't let ANY social worker look at pics of pet snakes and people. Just seems like too much fuel in need of a spark, ANY spark! And what was she doing looking at FB at work???? I don't know many places where that's allowed. And yes, I know people do it all the time but come on! Was it really that slow in a hospital??

Sounds like this social worker is a snake phobic person to begin with! I sure hope this blows over without any fallout.

Another example how people jump to conclusions without knowing facts.

I wouldn't worry too much.. because if it's reported, they will find out that your boyfriends sister was on facebook during work time and she might get into trouble for it... hopefully she realized that and asked for it not to be reported. Even so, they have to prove the snakes are dangerous for there to be a case anyway.

I hate when people get up into your face unnecessarily and blow things out of proportion.. makes you want to kick their ass

This is one reason I put my facebook on private view.. so people like that don't go into orbit about things they have no idea about.

I wouldn't worry about it too much, Steph. In order for CPS to make a case they need to prove there is a danger. It shouldn't be hard to locate enough "photo evidence" of the dangers damage caused by dogs and cats to children. It would be MUCH harder to find proof of BP's and corns causing visible damage to children.

In the end, CPS, would be required to make a "house call". They would see your snakes are in proper enclosures, and their relative size. They would need to bring evidence that there is an imminent threat to your child's safety in order to pursue any sort of protective case, and the simple fact is...there is no threat of danger. This should be fairly easy to prove with even a halfway decent lawyer. I'm also fairly certain that you have plenty of friends that are parents, that own snakes, that could testify to the ridiculous nature of the claims. I'm close enough to show up, with my kid, and photos of her at 2 holding corns and kings...

Afterall...it's not like you have a house full of rattlers and cobras. In my opinion, removing the photos from FaceBook gives the impression that you have something to hide. You don't. Put the photos back up. Your kids are not in any danger in any of them. Screw CPS. The burden of proof lies on them to prove malicious intent and inherent danger, and neither one exists...which makes it all the more difficult to prove...

In Arizona an individual CPS worker has the power to remove your kids on a suspicion of danger. I don't know about other states. If it were me I would keep pictures of kids younger than 9 or 10 with snakes off the web and away from anyone but people who are totally understanding.

I am a bit leery of "the system", though, so that's the perspective I am coming from.

Ok everything seems to be ok now.. And she might get in trouble for being on there at work.. It was on her own laptop so I hope not.. Basically the social worker at her job said it was child endangerment and then she asked her friend about it who is going to school for social work.. And she asked her teacher and he was the one who said he has to report it by law. But he never asked her anymore about it after class. But yes its true.. The social worker obviously has a fear and a lack of understanding about snakes to make her jump to that assumption.. I was never really to worried about it, just kinda irritated about people period and how they always jump to conclusions about things they don't understand. Thanks for the tips everyone :)
