I'm curious if you ever need to have the UTH turned off because it's getting too hot? It depends on the room on my house, but if I keep my corn in my bedroom its 76-80F From April-October/November and always stays at a steady temp (rarely in the summer does the temp in my room change at all, always at 78-80F)

So I'm wondering if the tank will need to be heated in the warm months and if it does what UTH I should use for a 20g tank? (I'm thinking it should be rated for like a 10g instead of a 20g to prevent overheating?)

Do Zoo Med UTH come with a thermostat so that I can set it at a certain temp, like you would for a fish tank heater?
 
My house ranges from 76-86 in the summer, and I leave my snake heat on, except when I go to Daytona for a few days. But if your room is 78-80, it should be fine for an adult snake. I would still heat a baby/yearling to 85 or so.

The ZooMed UTH does not come with a thermostat. You can buy a cheap Alife thermostat from The Bean Farm for under $30. This is critical because an unregulated UTH will go up to 130F and can burn your snake. Snakes do not move away from heat when they are burning.
 
Thanks! So 85F until they are adults then? I was never sure whether it should be 80 or 85 on one side and whether 78-80 would be too warm for the "cool" side.
 
85 for the warm side all their life.

78-80 is a bit too warm for the cool side, which should ideally be in the low 70s. But I guess it depends what you can realistically achieve given your local weather and home air con system, and whether this suits your Corns.
 
If that is too warm for the cool side I can house him in the living room where its cooler due to AC, if my parents will let me.
 
Just a thought, but if youleave your heaters on with a thermostat, they should regulate themselves (go on and off as needed) so no worries!
 
Yeah, thats what I'm going to do. Before I wasnt really sure how heaters for reptiles work. I wasn't sure whether they were like that- that's how my fish heaters are.
