I am trying to pick a name for my future corn...i was thinkin scorch :flames: (like my site name)but he(thats what i claim him as...could be a girl...)is not orange or even any red but more dark colors i believe he is some morph of a ghost but have NO clue whatso ever :shrugs: ...i like the name Zero :crazy02: ...cuz it can go either way...any suggestions...and maybe some help on the type of corn too:D

Well since there are no pics..I think it might be hard to pinpoint what kind of snake it is...but if it has dark colors it could possibly be an anery, or a caramal..since you said there are no red or orange on...it could be a dark butterscotch...I'm not sure about ghost though..I kind of thought ghost is supposed to be very light in color..I dunno...

As for name suggestions...hmm...Orion (male), Artemis (female)...I dunno...I like mythology.. :grin01: :grin01:

Dark colours? Could it be an anery (anerythristic?)

Zero is a nice name :) Hope we're going to see pictures when the new guy arrives!

I really like the name zero and i think i have fully convinced my mom...i might get the whole setup on the 14th when my big sis (who has a bearded dragon)come and helps me out...then when we take her back the next day or so i will get my baby snake...is that too short for the tank to get to the right temps or should i wait a few more days to get my corn...who i think will be name Xero(thanks Nanci your tons of help!i love it:D:D:D)I can not wait to get my snake and i have a digital camera to capture all the first moments ;) lol...i should let him rest for a week right and settle in then try and feed and give him 72 hours to digest...right? running out of words so thanks for all the help..the forum is Sooooo helpful i am glad i stumbled onto it:D

If your worried about the UTH reaching the right temps quick enough, don't worry about that...When I got Striker and I set up his tank, I plugged the UTH into the thermostat and it reached 80 degrees in about 45 minutes..those thngs heat up quick..Your right for waiting a week before handling him..and feeding him first is a good idea as well..After feeding you could wait 48 hours and then try to handle him but waiting 72 hours might actually help him..He needs plenty of time to get used to his new home...Take it from me...I'm going through the same waiting period right now with Striker...I got him last Sat. but I'm not going to try and handle him until Monday.. :grin01: good luck with your new snake :0)

thanks so when i get the undertank heater(primary source of heat)i can just keep Xero in the thing they sent him home in and just make sure he is warm? i just dont want him to be uncomfertable on top of the stress of moving...so i am still sort of confused..i need an undertank heater..is that the only heat source i need? do i need a viewing light or is that just a bonus?..and lastly how warm should the water in his dish be? luke warm, cold, hot?...:Dthanks:D

The UTH should be enough as a source for heating..as for viewing..You can always get a viewing light if you want..(Petsmart sells this clip on red viewing light for 24.99, I bought it and use it to view Maize at night since that is when she loves to come out..It works great and doesn't give off that much heat at all (after 2 hours of having it on I felt the screen lid and it was still cool, the light wasn't even warming it that much), the down part about this light is it's kind of small and doesn't give off a lot of light..so you have to position it to where it will light up the tank just right..When I bought Striker home, he was in this tiny plastic container for over 2 hours already..I immediately set up the tank, stuck the UTH into the thermostat, filled his water dish (I fill mine with cold water because the house will bring it to room temperature anyway..) and I just put him into the tank so he could have a place to hide and not be so stressed..I kept my eye on the UTH for about 2 hours..until I knew it wasn't going to go soaring up or down and then I just let him be..I hope this helps..

oh ya tons of help...so he wont get sick and die if the temps are not perfect when i out him in as long as they adjust soon?...and what thermostat do you use?...i found one that connects to 2 things and controls the temp...so i just plug the thermostat into the undertank heater and then set it to what temp? cool side is 74 correct? sorry for all the questions i just want to do it right..thanks again:D

The thermostat I use is the Repti-Therm500R (19.99 on Reptilesupply.com)..This thermostat didn't come with a dial with numbers..the dial just has a blue color on the left side and deep red on the right side..the more you turn the dial to the right..the warmer it gets..So I really had to mess with this thermostat when I first got it in order to find the perfect temp. (good pointer about it is it came with a dial cover so I and my pets that love to jump up on things don't have to worry about accidentlly hitting it up or down..) I don't see any reason for your snake getting sick..As long as the cool side is in the 70's you should be good..When I first put striker in his tank he went straight to the cool side and into the hide and didn't come out until about an hour later..then he discovered the warm side and stayed there for a bit..and like I said I kept my eye on the temp during the warming up process to make sure I had it on a good setting..now this thermostat is heating up both my snakes vivs..But I'm getting 2 different temp readings from each tank..i found that out from questioning the forum that the reason is because I was using a thermometer meant for outside and in house use..it has multiple sensor points so it wasn't just reading the UTH..it was mixing with the temp of the apartment to give me a lower reading..the thermometer in Striker's tank is one that has a probe that I put right on top of the glass where the UTH was under the substrate..and that one gave me the accurate reading...Wow...I'm making this post way to long..I'm sorry...all in all ...temps for cool side in the 70's (good) temps for warm side in the low 80-85 (good) snake won't get sick from having to wait a little bit for the UTH to heat up.. :grin01:
