Pictures of my Uro..

These are my reasons for wanting a uro:

Medium lizard that is handleable, not fragile, that does not reach a large size like an iguana, tegu, monitor, etc. Has a "personality."

Vegetarian with a wide range of foods accepted.

Brightly colored and very active- interesting to watch.

So why do you find Uros so especial? Is it the way they behave? Look? What?
(PS: I'm not saying they are not especial! I'm just curious to know if there is something else besides the few facts I do know about them) :)

Its kinda like asking why are your Greyhounds special or your Corn Snakes?

Its just is.

This guy is a bit squirelly but my SO always wanted one. They are nice lizards to have. The Egyptians are larger though and really neat. Imagine having a lizard that looks like that about the size of a small cat.

They do require high heat. I have a hot spot of 110 degrees in the cage.

That's great. I will look into them now that I know they are vegetarians (I hate the idea of having crickets inside my house). Bright colors and activeness just add to the "nice qualities" list.

Well, I know this was not a true question, but I have greyhounds because of their personality, easy maintenance, quietness, independence, exercise requirements, size, color variations, availability (ex racers in need of homes all the time), etc.

I chose a corn snake because of colors, behavior, size, diet, heat requirements, easy maintenance, etc.

I was looking for an answer along these lines. ;)

I will say that a uro is BY FAR the most expensive animal I have ever set up, not counting building actual huge pens outside for chelonians. And I would also say that if I had to pick one or the other, I would definitely pick a bearded dragon, first. They are just more tolerant of handling and don't require quite the extreme caging/heating.

Nanci,
You are absolutely right. I always recommend another lizard for newbs just because these guys have extreme requirements.
Its weird not having water for a pet but I do not keep water for mine. But you gotta keep them well fed or they will die of Dehydration.

Like I said, when I got mine, he was on death's door. If it was just up to me, he would've been placed in the freezer. My SO thought other wise and worked night and day with him to keep him alive. Well she did accomplish it and he is now doing wonderful. But if this guy would have stayed at the original home or gone to someone else less dedicated. It would have died.

id love to get a uro ... but a sav monitor and argentine b and w teguseems to be enough lizards, to my parents

He is gorgous! man..I see malis that size and I really wonder about mine..lol..I've had him for almost a year now and he hasn't gotten too much bigger then when I first got him..I think he may be stunted in growth or something...lol...

Your mali is very beautiful and looks very healthy :0)
