Well my Corn just hit the 24/25 gram mark, that means no more pinkies and time to move onto fuzzies! But I had one left in the freezer so...

He sees it!

I'm not sure if geckos are supposed to have baby mice on their diet list..but I will admit..those are some pretty awesome shots! :0)

Pinkies definitly arent a staple, but a treat I give every few months, Theyre usually given to females to help them with laying with the extra calcium but are pretty fatty.

They can be given every once in awhile as "treats" or to supplement. My boy is a little piggy - every time I put my fingers in his viv, he comes over to see if I've got food for him.

Even though it's fuzzy, I really do like his body position in the last shot. It's a cool angle.

Spunky is just the same, Hes actually gotten my finger a few times, He was raised by his other owners to be hand fed, Which is pretty awesome I guess seeing how my Albino Girl wont take anything dead or from my hand... However It has messed up his accuracy when hunting down live crickets, Ive never seen a gecko miss so much!

LOL I trained my boy (Steve) to take food from me on occasion, but he primarily 'hunts' for his own crickets, so he's not a klutz. I'm working on getting my girl to take food from me. She's a super mack snow, and REALLY pretty. I got her as a freebie because she was sick and wasn't eating. She's still very thin, but doing a lot better.

The trick to training them to do it is mealworms. Get the nice big juicy ones, pick some especially wiggly ones, and use them to progressively lure her closer and closer to one that is between your fingers. (Of course, this works much better with a hungry leo  )

By the way, I LOVE the name "Spunky". It's a very fun name.

I typically give all my Leos pinkies every month. Just one a month, this way they are getting calcium. I always make sure my females get a pinky ever few weeks during breeding season as well.

Thanks everyone, and He was named after the dog in Rockos Modern life (that was the most messed up cartoon ever, lol). I would try the mealie thing on my other leo cause she actually takes those but, wouldnt theybe too small to hold with my fingers, lol? And she doesnt like supers, so I couldnt use those, maybe silkies.

Great pics!

Our fat tailed girl has never gone for one...but I also had never dangled one before...

Her favorites are the Phoenix and wax worms. Her favs used to be crix, but has never really embraced the mealie thing.

I'll give it a try, thanks:)

C,
Where do you get phoenix worms up here?

C,

I just mail order them...but I have found that ordering directly from the Phoenix Worm company yields a better batch than other distributors.

I have not ordered any in 3 months because our fat tail does not go through them quickly enough on her own (400 per cup)...(Our Rankin was brumating).
I have to order some now though that he's awake and eating.

It is $26- (no additional shipping costs) for 400 large.

Although they can eat the dark ones they never do.
The hard part is being here for delivery...they are opposite the mealies...they do fine in heat but not on cold...and as you know MN is not letting go of winter yet:bang:

Ive actually never seen a pheonix worm before, man they are by far the ugliest of the worms. While were on the subject though has anyone ever tried Goliath Tomato worms? Being up here in quebec and usually getting my feeders from pet stores I had never seen anything but crickets, silkies, mealies and kings, the other day I went and was suprised to see these green and blue guys, supposedly there as good for reptiles as silkies.

You mean hornworms? I am currently feeding those to Isabel for a change. I bought a pod last year, and they got out of control so fast. They started out as tiny things, and by the end of the week were very big, and a few days later were 13 grams! She could only eat one at a time, and when she pooped it was a giant bilious green mushroom cloud! So I didn't buy any for a long, long time. But I bought her a pod last week because the silkworms were only available in small.

Woah, the worm gets to 13 grams!? I definitly couldnt feed that to the Leos lol, But I imagine theyd be good for beardies, my beardie eats 50 crickets a week, i wonder if a few horn worms would end up being cheaper, then again arent they pretty pricey?
