Plants

Jenstar

IN OVER MY HEAD ;)
OK, I love asking tons of questions so you will probably see me a lot... Today, I was curious about what types of plants you guys use in your terrariums??? The pet store type can be fairly expensive, so I was wondering if it would be safe to use the ones at craft stores??? What are your ideas???

I used craft store plants so I hope that is ok! I imagine as long as they aren't sprayed with anything icky or have sharp pointy bits that they should be ok. My snake really really likes his because it gives him more places to hide, so instead of two hides he can pretty much hide anywhere under the plants.

Thankyou for your help... I'm trying to set up homes for some new babies and I want to make sure they are happy and healthy...

Dollar store plants are fine. Do check for wires sticking out of the stems, though. If you find any, you'll want to cover the points with aquarium sealant or with hot glue. Don't use tape in vivs; snakes have a way of making trouble for themselves with tape. Babies also like to hide in toilet paper rolls, paper towel rolls, and butter boxes, just to name a few faves. You can spend a lot of money setting up your vivs, but you don't have to. The snakes will be just as happy with homemade hides.

I have just designed my viv myself and I realy like the setup I have... I used the 6' vine coils from the fake plant ailse of walmart that was $3 and found a small pack of suction cups for $1.63 from the hardware part :)

I also went out and found wood that looked fairly not rotten and "cooked" it in the oven at 350 for 20-25 mins depending on size (made sure to wrap in aluminum foil) and i found a couple rocks too that were out in the ditch behind my house and I washed them really good with soap and water (guiltily used a little bleach to be on the safe side!!!)

That's pretty cheap decorations if I could say so myself :D

Those are great ideas... Now I'm going to have to definetly check out wal mart and the dollar store...:D I love old wood, but I don't have any in the yard so I guess that gives me a reason to go on a nature hike...:sidestep:
Thankyou Everyone...
