Please Help!!! Corn Snakes and salmonella....

I know that after handling Corns (or any herps for that matter) you should thoroughly was your hands and any other parts that the animal touched with an antibacterial soap. However, has anyone ever heard of any documented case of salmonella or any other types of sickness being associated with corns?

I ask this, because (and yes, I do feel like a terrible parent because of this) yesterday I did my routine Viv cleaning, and completely changed out the bark in my tanks. I accidentally dropped some bark nuggets on the floor, and honestly thought that I had found them all. Apparantly however, one of the pesky little nuggets had made it's way just under my couch and I missed it. Needless to say, my 8 month old found it for me this morning. As soon as we noticed what he had, we washed his hands and thoroughly brushed out his mouth (...he loved this, by the way...~sarcasm~) but now I'm worried to death because as with everything else he grabs I'm almost certain it went into his mouth as soon as he grabbed it.

Any knowledge that you guys can share would be greatly appreciated.

Felling very stupid,
Jason

I would definately call your pediatrician and ask her/him what steps to take. I also believe you can get your snakes tested for salmonella, I don't remember if there is a certain test for it or if it shows up in a culture, but it is something you may want to check into with your local herp vet. Good Luck!
