Well, my position has been fairly well established during the debate that you referenced.

But for clarification sake, I voted yes, conditionally. I want to acknowledge that my vote is based SOLELY on what is directly visible and audible in the video, and I reserve the right to change my opinion based on the potential future release of further videographic evidence or the realese of potential investigative reports that may reveal information not available directly through the video presented...;).

LOL... Yea, I think it will be obvious what most of us vote from the discussion... I voted no due to what I could hear and see... I cannot speculate on what is not shown but from what I saw, I have to say no... Maybe something else happened that justifies their conduct, but the video does not give me the liberty to speculate...

Just bumping to give everyone the chance to vote before it gets burried on the following pages... Continue the discussion in the main thread please... Just vote here...

I voted undecided, I wasn't there.

How about another poll asking if the student was justified in creating the incident? :sidestep:

Personally i think what is on that video is sick, putting anyone under that much pain/Stun because he wont leave a library is well wrong, and if i was there, i would have actually hit the police until they stooped because no human deserves that, and no human should do that not even one in uniform, I'm permentally banned from my local libary for abusing the staff, i did it when i was alot younger though, but i have to be honest because they were not very nice to me themselfs, the easyests way the libary staff could have handled it, was to just ask him to get back and get it in a nice way! not I'm not justifying him what so ever, but personally i think the police were abusing there powers and if i was there the only people who would be getting taserd would be the police. :)

George.

1) assaulting an officer is a felony...so you have fun hitting cops.
2) good job with the library thing, your parents must be proud
3) the staff did ask him to leave, he refused, hence the cops. cops asked him to leave, he refused. cops tried to arrest him, THEN he tried to leave: resisting arrest.
4) if you tried to grab the cops stun gun/use your own, you'd be lucky to get off with a simple tazering.

now...back to the adults

There is no debate that the student was not justified in his actions so no need for the pole... The debate is in how the officers handled it...

Well.. i dont know what to say, personally i think i'm a young adult, and mabie you should not try and section adults from children, i really dont know what to say..

so.. i'm gona say nothing...

I don't know about the prevailing opinions in the UK, but around my parts, a "young adult" is more like 18-23 (adult being 18). My theory is also that most adults have more life experiences than most children (there are obviously exceptions to this) and adults are able to offer an opinion that is more likely based on these many experiences and less likely based on feelings towards authority.

Flame on.

No Flame here, they also tend to know that if you grab a weapon that curerntly is in the hand of an officer of the law, you run the very real risk of ending up dead :(

See? I've learned something new from someone wiser! I run only the risk of being dead if I try and grab an officer's weapon, when I thought it was a certainty!

Thanks!

George.

My comment about "back to the adults" had nothing to do with your age, and I only noticed the 14 in your info after posting. The comments I put in bold are childish at best, and the misspelling of "themselves" and "easiest" made it worse. Not even the least mature "young adult" would say things like "I'd hit the police till they stopped"

Okay i agree i was a little bit silly in saying that but i would atleast tell them to stop, and sorry if my spellings are not as good as they "should be" i forgot to click on the spell check, thanks for reminding me tho, "respect for that"

 sorry : )

I'm glad you did something to disprove my assumptions about you.

Not a certainty, depends on the officer and where you are when you grabbed it, but highly unlikely :)

You must spread around....

more rep points before giving more to CML.
Having been on the LE side let me try to put it into words.
1. You're darned if you do and darned if you don't.
2. In a nutshell you're not going to win your battle with LE on the streets. Take it and fight it in court.

That incident...
Just flippin leave! Go get the ID and return. When an officer gives you a command, comply. See #2. Then try to discuss the matter.
I have been tazered. It hurts.
Mace, it hurts.
But a PR24? How many times has an officer been using his PR24 when a suspect turns the wrong way and is struck in the head? See #1.
Mace and a tazers are a good alternative to a firearm.
Can't say what I would've done, there appears to be a good number of officers there. But if one felt threatened or needed to get the situation under control before it escalated, I'm for it.

Wow! This poll could not be much closer. I personally thought that it was going to be lopsided, but I was proved wrong. It is my nature to think others should see things the way I do and if someone doesn't agree with me, then they are probably a minority. LOL.

If the kid is being a jerk, and wont leave, and trying to grab the officers weapons. hes not just going to try and talk him into leaving!
of course they had to do something. not sure if tazering was the right thing. but im kinda glad they did tazer him... he was asking for it
