Poop?

Teddy Roosevelt

i loev cronsankes
I've had my first snake for a while now and haven't seen any poop... I thought he may have done it in his waterdish as there were black specks floating in it once (confirmed not mites by the wet paper towel test) but I haven't seen any since. Am I missing it? He's just a hatchling, not sure of weight.

If you he's a hatchling and you have him on a substrate other than paper towel, then yep, it's pretty easy to miss. You're looking for something that looks like miniature bird poop - a liquid clear bit that dries to white, with a slightly harder brown or black bit.

You could use the nose test and sniff it,lol but for the most part they poo a few days after eating once a week:)

One of my hatclings always, always poops when he's tunneling through the aspen. My others just poop on the opposite side of where they spend most of their time, usually the cool side. It's like...half-a-pea sized for my smallest baby, which is 8 grams, and maybe pea-sized for my larger hatchlings, upwards of 15 grams.

So basically, next time he's out of the tank, dig like crazy until I strike gold? Haha. How often should I be changing his substrate, while we're on the subject?

Lol, yeah, pretty much. Even then, you might miss it! Especially the urates (white stuff), it'll just crumble into nothingness sometimes. And I completely clean my guys' tanks once a month, but try to spot clean whenever I see poop. :}

when i bumped yoshi up a size in food, i couldnt believe how much more substantial the poop was...lol...also just recently had the first waterdish poop. when they do that you can really see how similar to bird poop it is. :D

I never caught any evidence of Frank poop when he was on pinkies and laying in aspen. Oh boy, is it noticeable now that he eats near adult sized mice. I spot clean and totally clean every 4 to 6 weeks. If the glass is dirty, I clean and disinfect the viv. If i see a poop, I scoop up the poop and surrounding aspen.
