Pragmatic & Logical
I recently watched the 3 part documentary "The Power of Nightmares". It details how politicians use fear (of terrorists, in this case, but the case could be made for fear of drugs, pythons, or anything else they find to control voters) to increase their power and persuade voters they need protection. It details the history of radical Islamists and the propaganda and manipulation of those facts by our own politicians for their own benefit. Quite an eye opener!

OH I can so totally see that. They use the same kind of manipulation on our soldiers during vietnam. They were fighting commies. The red scare during the 50s.

It is crazy how the masses are so easily scared into compliance and trust they will be saved from these evils.
 
Heck, without using fear as a marketing tool, where would insurance companies be?
