Pre-Purchase Checklist and a few Questions

I think I've finally decided on a morph. I will be ordering a black motley as soon as I get the enclosure set up and running. I have a few questions.
1) I want to start out with a simple tub setup. What size for a baby, and can anyone recommend one that has locking "clips" on all 4 sides?
2) My girlfriend has some left over 4" flexwatt from her setups. Is this safe to use under the plastic tub? I will only have 1/3 of the tub on the heat tape. If it is safe, what is the best way to wire it? Do I need to buy one of the kits? Would I be better off buying a Zoomed or other UTH since this is only for one enclosure? Where would I place the thermostat probe? Thermometer probe?
3) Where is the best place to buy frozen pinkies?
4) Recommend a safe cleaner for the tub?
5) Do I need to buy bottled water or treat tapwater?
Here is what I'm thinking for my supplies list:
-locking top plastic tub with holes (melted with soldiering iron)
-UTH (Flexwatt or Zoomed?)
-thermostat (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=470938631&pf_rd_i=507846)
-thermometer/hygrometer ( http://mobile.walmart.com/ip/Acu-Rite-Indoor-Outdoor-Thermometer/896347)
-paper towel substrate (may go to aspen)
-cheap hides (small pet bowl with holes drilled?) One at the hot end, the other at the cold end.
-small pet water dish
-frozen pinkies
-feeding tongs
Am I missing anything?
Thanks in advance, Sly

P.S.: I was going to order from BHB, but I can't get any response. Two emails with no reply. I called the number on their website, and it seems to be down. Any ideas?

I am in the same situation as you- getting the set up ready, but no snake yet. I found Ziploc Weathertight bins at Walmart for pretty cheap and they have 4 clip locks and a foam seal all the way around the lid, so there are no escape gaps! I got the 26qt size and I plan on getting a baby, and then moving up in tub size when it gets bigger (as such, I just used tin foil on the sticky part of my UTH so I can move it easily later on).

Too big for a hatchling?
Mine are in 20 gallon tanks and weight 8-18 grams right now. They love to roam. If I let them have more space I'm sure they would take it.

Give it a small place to hide (ie toilet paper roll smashed flat) on both the warm and cooler sides of the viv and you should be fine. Fake plants (or more paper rolls!) are great to fill up space and keep the snake busy when roaming.

Also, bhb sells ball pythons for way more than corns. They don't make time to answer questions about your corn because it's not worth their time. You won't know the hets either. Which can suck if you ever want to have a breeding project. I'm speaking from my own experience trying to buy two snakes from BHB and changing my mind when realizing other breeders involved in this site are more helpful by far.

There are so many breeders.

BHB are just the best prices (in general) and Brian's so nice... I hope his show goes well. But I wouldn't buy his corns.

I ordered my corn from BHB. I never actually bothered trying to email them, I just bought the snake as I would any item from a different online store. They called the next day to set up the delivery date. Since I didn't really care about any specifics about lineage, the lack of interaction didn't bug me. But they might not be responding just do to busy work schedules or because of the winter mess going on.

Using just a little dishsoap and water will clean it just fine, if it is the first cleaning a small splash of bleach or vinegar is a good thing, just rinse until you can't smell it anymore. This will kill most bacteria if there is any.

As for water, I use tap water.

SlyBlackDragon, there is no such thing as "too big" for a home for a hatchling, in the wild they have the entire world to explore from day one. The only problem is if you are using aspen substrate instead of a flat bottom (like paper towel) they are hard to locate sometimes, make sure you only use about 1" of substrate.

Also, no such thing as too many hides either! They love LOTS of plastic or silk plants, the more hiding places (or so they think) the better. I use lots of toilet paper tubes flattened at one end and angled downwards into the substrate that make great disposable caves, plastic yogurt cups and the bigger containers cut straight down, across the bottom then up the other side gives you two hides per container, and your bathroom cabinet holds lots of small cardboard boxes that will hold up to over a year or so old corn.

It sounds like you are ready!
