Preparing a frozen mouse....how??

Well Striker needs to eat today but I have never warmed a full grown mouse..only pinkies...and the mice didn't come with directions on how to warm them up...they came in one giant plastic bag so I think they might all be frozen together..so I don't even know how I'm going to get one away from the others without breaking it.. :puke01: ....So how can I go about this? Can I take one out and let it defrost for 12 hours naturally and then give it to my snake? Or do I have to take it out and put it in warm water?? If so..then for how long?? I hope I get some responses as I do have to get ready for work soon...thanks everyone..
 
12 hours naturally will turn that mousie toxic...eewww .

I just leave it in warm water for an hour.
 
If you want the mouse to be dry then put it in a plastic ziplock style bag and put that in hot water. Change the water every 10 minutes or so to keep it hot and within 30 minutes you should have a nice warm mouse.

If you want your mouse wet, then jsut put i directly in the hot water. Change the water again in ten minutes to get it hot again and after a 10 more minutes your mouse should be warm.

THe mouse should be very "loose" and movable and should be slightly warm to your touch.
 
the mouse should come away from the 'mouse ball' pretty easily, well mostly they do!

I defrost mine by putting the kettle on. Then i put the mouse in a sandwhich bag (any plastic bag will do), i put this in some boiling water from the kettle and then some cold from the tap untill the temps aren't boiling, but still very warm.

Then i leave the mouse, usually only for about 15 minutes ish i guess to defrost.

Always remember to check its fully defrosted. I do this be gently squeezing the mouse through the bag to make sure the center is soft, and i also feel for any remaining cold patches, and when im fully confident its defosted it get fed to the snake.

One thing i would say is to make sure you don't cook them a little, the snakes dont like it, and man they wreak!! :eek1: you'll know if you do this, cos the mouse will look abit like cooked chicken ish... ie. white cooked skin not good!

Hot tap water works well enough. I wouldn't use boiling or heated water or you might end up cooking the mouse.
 
I use a cheapo kitchen thermometer that you can buy at Walmart for $4.00.

The water coming out of my tap is around 110-112 degrees. I will change the water once and pull the mouse at around at when the temperature has been holding at around 102-103 degrees.

With that said, this is for a large pinkie. You’ll need to adjust your times the larger your mouse gets.

All I do is put the mouse in a ziplock type bag, put it in the sink of hot tap water, which I change about every 10 minutes. Usually in about 20 minutes the mouse is thawed. I check to see if I feel any coolness at all in the head area, if that appears to be warm by feeling I know the mouse is fully thawed and ready to feed Tiaga.

If your thawing smaller mice, like fuzzies, the time is probably about 5 - 10 minutes in hot tap water.

That's exactly what I did :0) and after about 20 minutes the mouse was ready..I put it in the feeding tank with Striker but he just didn't seem to interested..Instead he kept a constant eye on me and was in his defensive position...I walked away hoping me not being there would help him out..and it did..I returned not even 2 minutes later and the mouse was half way down..I walked away again and returned a few minutes later..the mouse was gone and Striker was once again staring me down..I took the small plastic carry tank I currently feed my snakes in and gently slid Striker back into his Viv. He then went to his fav. hide on the cool side and I haven't seen him since except for an occasional head peaking out..Today I'm going to feed Maize her first fuzzie..thank you for telling me how long to make the fuzzie for..I'm actually going to do that right now..thanks again everyone :0) :grin01:
