Prolapse

I have a young snake. We have had him about three months. He eats great( 1 pinkie twice a week. 4 days ago he either prolapsed or his unit is hanging out. It happened over night and dried up. I soaked him in sugar water and gently got it to go back in. The next day it came back out. I've done it twice and I am worried(hes kinda a part of the family now). I called a vet and petco where I bought it with no help. Any ideas what I can do? Or what the problem is? Or what to do?

vet for sure...and twice a week feeding is a little overboard. Search for the munson plan here and figure out the size mouse you should be feeding every 5-7 days intead of two smaller meals a week. Godd luck at the herp vet!!

I just had that happen to my leopard gecko. Soaking seemed to help and he's okay now, after self amputating his "unit" and resting for a few days, but I would probably take your snake to the vet if that hasn't worked. Best of luck.

Just wondering how your snake is doing. Were you able to find a competant reptile vet in your area? Has it happened again? Once it has happened the snake can be prone to it continuing to happen and needs vet attention. It will be important for the vet to determine what is causing it. Hope all is well by now.

Well he seems to being doing great! Third times the charm I hope. I would take him to a vet but theres not one within a 100 miles of me that deals with reptiles. He ate yesterday so he must be feeling ok. Im switching to the munson plan to see if that makes any difference( idont see why a 1 mouse feeding twice a week or 2 mice feeding every 5-7 days would change anything but Ill give it a try.)

I hope it was a fluke thing. Ill let you all know how hes doing in a few days. Thanks for the help.

That's how far I have to go to get to a reptile vet as well but for the health and safety of my babies it is well worth it. Hopefully, it works out for you and hopefully there isn't any chance he can get an infection from having it hanging out and dragin around until you found him that way. Just out of curiosity what morph is your little "flasher" dude? LOL. Do we get to see any pics?
