a friend of mine asked me if i wanted to adopt his snake from him but i dont have much room in my apt. would there be any problem with putting a 3-4 year old corn with a 7 month old corn in the same tank
 
I'm back new to the forum, but not new to snakes. NO, you can't put them together. The older one will more than likely eat the smaller one. Even corns of the same size shouldn't be housed together. Just too much chance of something happening. Not to even mention the stress they can have being housed together. You can pick up a cheap plastic tub at Walmart and house the 2nd one that way. Just don't put them in together.

Yeah i agree. If you cant afford to give it a home, ether dont take it or get a plastic storage container that will cost you almost nothing.
 
I just went through this same thing. I opted for no after some discussion on here and good advice. Now I have two set ups lol.

I am just glad you came on here and asked the question! Yes, it is probably your best bet to either turn the snake down for now or to get another cage. The cons out number the pros in this situation but thank your for asking us first!
 
I got a question on this, the reptile store i visit has several like 5 or so hatchlingins all in one viv approx size 10gal, now im not sure how old they are but i would guess from 2-3 months on, but if they are housed together already and i buy two of them, would there be any risk in keeping them together but in a larger viv?

Pet Stores will sometimes keep animals together that are not supposed to be because they either have limited room and want to have them all on display or do not know how to properly care for the animals. Corns have and are kept together without any problems but that doesn't mean there can't be any problems.

If you have two snakes in one cage then there is a very small possibility one will kill the other or have it for lunch. Something else that could pose a problem would be that if one got sick, then there is a chance the other would too. Also you would not know who had gone to the bathroom or if one of them regurges then you would not know which one was sick.

I would recommend buying one corn snake from a reputable breeder and if you have room (another cage) then you can get another. Just my opinion.
 
Ditto with everything Dave said. The reason I said do a search was because this topic becomes so heated, it seems better to let someone decide for themselves.
As far as pet shops again ditto with Dave; here is my experience I bought two hatchling corn snakes from a large chain store. I then transported them home 11 hours in the car. All of which I explained to said pet store. I was told no problem feed them while you are here and then when you go home 4 days later feed them when you get home. Well that didn't exactly go as planned, they didn't eat, I had them in same viv (again pet store said that is preferred method), then one ate and one never did. She got weaker as time went by (I never thought to look on line for help). One night I went in and the male yes they were 1.1 was constricting her, I managed to get her out but it was too late she was dead. So while some say it is rare look at my odds!
I found this site when I was told by a different pet shop sure no prob, put this 6 mo. old (Creamsicle) in with a two year old. I said the one I have is a male, no problem. That is when I found this site, I will never co-hab. I now have 12 snakes all seperate all but one in vivs one in tub.
So I say do some research, for the most don't believe pet stores, and decide for yourself. susang
 
Even if one of the snakes doesn't eat the other one as is the biggest fear on this site when it comes to co-habbing there is always the humungous amount of stress each snake endures when they are having to share the same small space. One may stop eating, start regurging, not be able to thermally regulate itself as well because the other snake has defined its "territory" or is more powerful and takes the good positions in the viv because they are both searching for the same type of spot. I agree with everyone else, I'd either buy a cheap sterrilite or a 10 gallon that will work for the time being, but I would definitly not put two corns together in the same viv and I would DEFINITLY not put an adult with a youngin becuse there's too much of a change the little one won't make it. :(

Do a search for "pet store" or "petco" or any other chain store on here and do some reading on that as well. In general, pet stores (with a few exceptions) do a LOT of things that they're "not supposed to do" because they either just don't care (in my own pet store employment experience) or just don't know any better and probably shouldn't be selling the reptiles in the first place. And I don't think there's any one good chain pet store either...there may be good ones in a chain out there, but I'd be willing to bet that's because of a manager in the store or somebody else higher up on the payroll that actually knows reptiles.
 
well i know petco and such i wouldnt trust, but the store i go to only sell repitles, snakes lizards what not its a big place, they have a few large pythons, and some snakes they only use for breeding, so this is where im getting my info, no harm in asking questions, this is why i ask before i buy.
 
Mine co habit fine, but I wouldnt trust 2 of differing sizes together, just in case.

On a seperate note im quite glad we dont have any petco type store around my bit of the UK they sound terrible!
 
alright well i decided not to keep them in the same viv. is it alright to keep the older of the two in a 10 gall viv or should i try to get a 20?

Go with the 20. An adult corn snake can spend its entire life in a viv equivalent to the dimensions of a 20 gallon "long"-style tank.

A friend of mine found a corn snake in an apartment that the residents had moved out of. They did the whole 30 day wait thing and then asked me if i wanted it because he couldnt keep it. so i took it. s/he is healthy and the viv is pretty cool i think.

I went to the pet store today and i say these little baby hatchlings. Now, my corn is 2.5' long. how dangerous would it be to put a hatchling in with him/her.

Also, how can i tell the sex of my snake?

Starting a new thread would help get better response to you question.
But if you read the whole thread, I would think you would know that its still dangerous. It just like drugs . just say no.
You could buy a plastic sweater box to but one or the other into but I have never don't this so my input is limited.
