Hey everyone

Today I recieved some new things for my Python's tank, an Exo-Terra Ficus plant (silk) and a cave. Now the plant is supposed to stick to the wall with the sucker pads, however, I attempted this a few times and it didn't work. I was just wondering how any of you managed to get it to stick. :shrugs:

Her vivarium is made primarily from wood, and has glass sliding doors at the front. Now I was thinking that maybe it was the wooden (has a plastic wood coating effect I believe on top of the wood to prevent decay) surface that prevented it from sticking, but a shop near me has the same vivariums and plants and they stick perfectly well, so why doesn't mine?

As a temporary solution I stuck the upper branches to the wall with sellotape. However I'm sure this won't last long because the temperatures will probably loosen the glue and cause it to fall off.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Well, I don't believe suction cups were meant for wood.
Are you sure the pet shop doesn't have the plants siliconed into placed?

If you read carefully you'll see that the wood's covered with a smooth, plastic coating to prevent decay. It's not porous so I thought it might be able to stick.

I was thinking about silicone, but I've never used it before and I don't have any lol. Maybe I could get my friend's Dad to do it for me.
 
What I did in our Fat Tailed Gecko enclosure to fix this same problem was to cut a small square of plexi the size of the compressed suction cup, smoothe the edges and then used a square of double sided carpet tape to attach it to the area that I wanted the cup to stick to and then used that. If the ares is PERFECTLY SMOOTH AND FLAT then you might want to try the old fall back LICK IT method
 
I did lmao! I know how they work, I licked it and held it firmly for about 10 seconds, no luck. Tried it again, nope. Okay, thanks for the suggestions anyway.
 
I did read your post.
Just because it's coated doesn't mean there's no dips and ridges in the wood, which will prevent it from sticking.

Aquarium sealant can be purchased at most pet store.

Okay thanks, but no need to get touchy, because I've felt it and it's pretty smooth, but I'll give it a try.

It's a good thing Royal's aren't really into climbing otherwise she could probably get to that tape. =S
 
I wouldn't us glue Dave, You cant take things out to clean them.
Use screw eyelets you can remove things then. Show you some Saturday,mate.

Actually the tape went on the back of the piece of plexi and stuck IT to the viv and then I stuck the cup to the plexi.... HA
