question about racks.

if you have a rack system, and you have corns, pythons, boas, ect. Can you have all of them in the rack system, like will it bother them, like how there are differnt kinds of snakes right over/under the others, or will it make no differency and do nothing to them.

The are two potential problems I see.

1) I have never thought it wise to mix even captive bred animals from different parts of the world in close proximity. There are flora that a New World (boa) species may need to flourish that can be devastating to an Old World (python) species. Call me paranoid, but it is a realistic possibility.

2) Some boas and pythons have similar heat requirements. Keeping them in one rack with one thermostat is doable. On average though, the heat requirements for boas and pythons are much higher that that of corns or other North American species. You will need a second thermostat to control the heating for each group. The thermostat can be one of the most expensive components of a rack system.

Just my $.02 :D

I see, I was just curious, I dont have a rack system, but, someday I'll have a group of snakes, and was thinking of how I"d house htem. Probably just differnt tanks I guess. Probably get them from those sites that build them, the ones that are long, and like 2 1/2 feet high, and how ever far deep, with sliding glass doors in the front, I'll have those for the bigger snakes. maybe a rack system just for corns then.

I depends on the individual specimens you are planning on housing. There are space and environmental consideration that must be addressed for all racks.

BCI and BCCs have much different heating and space requirements than North American colubrids. There are some that have very similar needs. I've had Kings, Corns, and 6 Brazilian Rainbow Boa living in the same rack for several years. All are kept at around 82F and in the same size tubs. I've never experienced any issue that caused me concern.

The trick is to make every effort to educate yorself on each of the species you plan on keeping. Such education will help you determine what is acceptable and what is not.
