Okay went to my favorite park to snap some photos ans just relax from my busy last few months... Well I took several shots of turtles and I noticed some of them appear to smile and some appear to frown.....

I also caught an alligator sunning itself so I took this shot.....

Then I couldnt help myself so I went around to the other side and took this one.

Could it be to do with the camera angle/angle of the turtles head rather than any difference in the turtle themselves? Just an idea.

Given that they lack the anatomical structures needed for true facial expressions, it's pretty much all camera angles and the shape of the head.

Frowning (same turtle):

Frowning (same species, different turtle):

It's all the way the angle of the head is positioned. If you notice in all of the "smiling" photos, the head is facing front or down. And in all of the "frowning" photos the head is facing upwards. Also turtles don't have teeth or lips, they have mandibles, so it could be the cause of wear and tear from eating. Kind of like how some people have over-bites, and some have under-bites. Funny question though, it could also be like a glass half full interpretation.
