Question

All I can do at this point is direct you to the care sheet sticky on the main page...
I mean, it's not terrible but it needs a change (in my opinion). Corns do occasionally climb, but they are ground dwellers. You can even purchase a large plastic tub from any big box store. Check out online stores for better options for vives if your local pet store had next to nothing. You can even ask if they'll order something specific for you. Fish tanks work just fine as well.

If the rheostat is not working, please invest in a thermostat. That is a necessary piece of equipment.
Go on to Amazon and search "Jumpstart" or "Hydrofarm" thermostats.

Just as an aside, we tend to weigh in grams, not oz. or pounds. :)

Please, again, read over the care sheet sticky.

Yes thank u for tour advice , i know she needs a longer cage was just a quick fix as the person i got her from had a small tank placed over top of her with no air flow or lid for the top .... So the tanks opening was sitting on a counter top .....

My house right now without heat on n windows on is sitting at 28 c a d its currently 32 c outside could this be affecting my temps ?

Yes, any change in ambient temps will affect your viv. You need a thermostat, not a rheostat, thermostats are much better for regulating temps when the ambient temps fluctuate.

And I remember the beginning of this now, yes, you DEFINITELY need a bigger viv! No matter what you use for heating will not matter with this small of a viv, it will be too hot or too cold.

You can use PayPal to pay for anything online pretty much, like eBay or Amazon purchases, and you don't need a credit card, it will hook up with your checking or savings account.

Please take care of this soon, your kiddo will appreciate it!

Nicole I know nobody is made of money but I'll tell you what you need and how to get it most cheaply.

A probed digital thermostat. Get the Hydrofarm Jumpstart. You can get it on Amazon.ca for about $40. If you have a hydroponics shop in town they might carry them. If not, get a friend to order it and give them the cash. It's important.

You can pick up a three-foot long aquarium very cheap from a garage sale or kijiji and buy it a screen top for reptiles. They sell these at all pet stores, probably under $20. Or a simple new reptile viv I have seen for about $70 at Pet Smart for a nice big one with a screen top.

You can get an appropriate sized heat mat for about $30. You were right to get the desert not the rainforest. Or you might be able to reuse yours if its not stuck on.

With that stuff she will be comfy forever.

Bigger viv is probably the first and foremost important thing you need to change right now. A bigger viv will allow for a better temp gradient, even using the rheostat. I'm not gonna tell you you *need* a thermostat because well, with a little bit of monitoring and a fairly consistent house temperature, I use a rheostat just fine. A thermostat is definitely a better option as it takes a lot of the guess work and fluctuation out of the equation, but it's far from a requirement. Kudos on picking the desert and not the rainforest. I made that mistake once. Only once. Rainforest doesn't put out enough heat at all, unregulated mine could hardly penetrate the glass let alone any layer of substrate.

Everyone else has offered superb advice already, i just had to throw my two cents in. And I can't stress enough that you really need a longer viv.

Sometimes just figuring out what supplies you need can be an adventure. I know it definitely was for me! And I know there will be more down the line. There's always something new to learn.

Good luck with everything! I hope you find everything you need at a fair price. :)

I realized this quickly enough to hurry up and find this forum and haven't looked back to a petstore clerk for advice since. Many of us here do use different techniques or different equipment, but you will always find what is best for YOUR snake in the plethora of information you have access to here.

I am with Nythain, I am a user of rheostats, they work perfectly for me as their ambient temp stays the same most of the time, but since summer started and we are adjusting the house thermostat (cold to colder to yay, Michelle's hot flashes are under control!) I am going to invest in several thermostats. I love visiting my kiddos several times a day so I may tweak a rheostat here and there, but the temps never fluctuate enough to be a danger.
