Questions about sanitizing tanks

BooBoo18

Just 1, no 2, ok 3, um 4
We are moving some of our snakes into bigger tanks and wanted to get some advise. My understanding is to sanitize the tank to use a bleach/water solution. I have always used clear water and a teeny bit of vinegar for their usual cleaning but this time I have two used tanks and will be moving one into a tank that had a previous corn snake in it so want to really have them sanitized well.

Right now we are looking at moving Pierre into a 20 gallon tank, moving Dillinger into Pierres old 10 gallon and Eros into a used 10 gallon out of their baby tanks. Nathair is staying in his small tank for a while longer as he is our little freak out snake and has been a real picky eater. I am going to switch his thermostat and probe as I am wondering if his eat/don't eat/eat again/ ok I'm not eating habits might be temp related but that is another subject.

How long should I wait after sanitizing the tanks before the snake goes in?

It it ok to use the bleach/water solution to clean the coconut hides, wood and plastic plants? I do use a very mild bleach/water solution on the water bowls already and rinse rinse rinse.

I was thinking about moving some foliage around between tanks but decided against that and will be keeping all foliage as it is or just add new just to protect against the transfer of anything between snakes. Maybe I am being over cautious but better safe than sorry.

Can I feed on their regular schedule after moving them around or should I wait 5 days after the move to give them time to get used to their new tanks?

Is there anything I might be missing? Please let me know.

The bleach does sound bad. Ok would the Chlorhexadine be available only through internet order or do they carry it in pet stores? It sounds like just the thing to sanitize for regular cleanings too. I will drop all the tank items into boiling water for a bit now and will be hunting down the solution to use from now on. Thanks so much!!

the little 8 oz bottle is concentrate, add like a tablespoon to a gallon or something like that. I used to use chlorhexadine til I got a different thingy, probably not for everyone,
the activeion sprayer. also available at some janitorial supply stores. they used to have a website but now seem to have only a facebook page instead.
Ive never seen chlrhex* at a petshop. You can get empty uncontaminated sprayer bottles at a janitorial supply store for really cheap and have a few made up in advance of when you need them, depending on how many animals you're caring for.
