I don't have a cornsnake yet (two more days!), but I was wondering about biting. I've raised a lot of rodents, so I'm used to having nips and scratches on my hands but I've never had any type of reptile before so I really don't know what to expect when it comes to chomping on fingers.

Do the bites usually draw blood, or is it more of a shocking "This guy just BIT me" type of deal? Usually when my rats or mice bit me, it was because they were startled or I'd forgot to wash my hands before that so who can blame them. I'm guessing it's the same for cornsnakes, but I just want to make sure.

Generally it is more of a shock then anything. Blood is rarely drawn, even by adult corns. Most here will tell you it's like being smacked with the prickly part of velcro.
 
If you do a search for "bite club" you'll find a huge collection of bites. Don't miss my thread, "When Jake Attacks!" I don't think you'll fear a snake bite after reading a few...
 
My friend's year old corn bite me and retracted very quickly (we think he was hungry) but it was a minor shock and no pain, no mark at all. I jumped about 3 inches, but my own little guy has never bitten me. =)
