Rack system

Kiss My Hearse
My name is Dionythicus and I'm addicted to snakes. *sigh*

I've finally come to the conclusion that we do not have room to have large fish tanks all over our house to keep our growing (and growing) collection of snakes. We only have 18 snakes right now, most are babies, but they grow up and we know there will be more! So, to save space and sanity, we're looking at making or buying rack systems. I never wanted to resort to racks, but we simply can't have all the snakes we want with the limited space we have.

Who makes the best, most affordable rack system? Who has the best plans for building one?

The most affordable one is one you make yourself. They don't need to be fancy to be functional and will cost 1/3-1/2 as much as buying one and having it shipped to you. Here is a great start for information: Rack Systems

We figured we would be making them, unless we found a super deal.

We are trying to decide between Flexwatt and Ultratherm for heating. We're a bit electrically challenged and are concerned about working with Flexwatt. At least the Utlratherm pads are self regulating.

CAV,

I still can't believe how good that turned out. How long did it take you to make that?

I'm wondering the same thing, that rack is awesome looking. How much did the flexwatt and Helix system cost?

I made a crappy plywood rack system for about $75, and it holds 18 twelve quart sterilites. Not too big either, 40x40.

I built and finished the nice one over a three day weekend. The other only took me a few hours.

The Helix was ~$125 and tape cost me another $50.

If ya'll don't mind can I talk you into posting your questions onto that thread? I've really tried to make "one-stop shopping" for all DIY rack info. :)
