You guys who live in the east and the mid-section are so lucky. *sighs*

I just looked at Kingsnake's site for upcoming shows and there's a whole lot of nothing for California. I wonder why that is? I hate to sound like a snob, but it's not like it's a small state.

I know there's a show in Sacramento once a year in the fall, but by then the inventory seems to be picked clean. I might go to a show in southern Oregan in July... heck, I would be willing to drive down to Southern California.

Am I missing something? Am I just not looking in the right places to find out where these shows are?

If you are talking about the Medford Oregon July show, I could be shooting myself in foot since I'm usually a vendor there, but, well, it hasn't exactly gotten rave reviews around here.
At least you guys have Anaheim and San Diego, aren't those two shows kinda worthwhile? If you come to Pac NW the better ones are supposed to be the Hillsboro OR and Puyallup WA ones.
What can I say, except I 100% agree -West Coast needs more herp shows!

Yeah I was talking about the one in Medford. Really? Well, that's a shame. I will still go, if I get the chance. My mother lives in Shasta, so it's a good stop over for me.

OH! I forgot there is a San Jose show in the late summer. But, geez, there are places out east that have shows *monthly*.

Well, maybe it's for the best. I'd never have any extra money if there were monthly shows.. :spinner:

LOL I've been avoiding herp shows for the same reason- I lack the extra dough, and can't seem to go to a show without bringing something home. . There is one in Eugene on March 1 so I may be in trouble, I won't have excuse to miss that one!
Well if you come to Medford I will be looking forward to meeting you and talking herps! It should get better, this year will only be the third year they have it there. I really wish there was a Daytona-sized event around here, though.

Heck yeah! If I end up coming, I'll drop you a PM.

Oh, if only there was one that big. It's almost tempting enough to save up for the trip. I could just imagine telling my family and friends I'm going to FL to a snake show.

"So you're going to flordia? Are you going to Disney world?"

"Er.. no."

"Going for the beaches, then?"

"... If I get the chance."

"Traveling for wildlife viewing?"

"Getting closer..."

And then getting my snakes to California. Gah. I'd have to mail my own snakes back.

Anahiem NARBC is the biggest one on the West Coast. (August)

If you want, there is a show in Texas in Feb as well.

BUT!!!

The San Diego show should be pretty big as well. (June)

IRBA used to show in So Cal as well, but I believe it may have stopped.

We have shows. You just have to watch out for them. :)

Ya, Anaheim is the best one I've been to, although I've never been to the Sac show. Kind of funny since Anaheim's a good 6 hour drive and Sac is only 2. :eek1:

Actually, while there may not be quite the frequency of shows in California that there seems to be on the east coast, the NARBC (Anaheim), The Reptile Super Show (San Diego) and the IRBA shows seem to be very worthwhile to attend. Last year my wife and I flew down for both the Reptile Super Show and the NARBC show and had a great time at each one and also picked up some snakes at both shows. We didn't make any of the IRBA shows which I heard are also good and occur several times out of the year other than the other two shows which only happen once a year.

As far as Medford (West Coast Captive Breeders) goes, and I apologize again to Jen :), we also flew down for that show and were sadly disappointed. I'm not disparaging that show for necessarily it's lack of size, and it was very small, but that it was disorganized amongst many vendors including the shows organizer (who was also a vendor), which unfortunately made the whole show seem very amateurish. This was sad because there were several vendors like Jen who did have their act together and were prepared by time the doors opened. The biggest problem I have with this organizer and the shows he does is the lack of putting out an actual vendors list. The list on the web site states "past & present" vendors which misleads people into thinking that there will be more vendors than might actually be there. When we went to the Medford show, about half of the vendors were still setting up their tables (including the show organizer) and several didn't even have prices on their animals (and we were interested in a few of the animals). For the $10 or $12 admission for the both of us, it was a disappointing 5 minute walk around the tables and back to the airport we went. Having said all of that, that was our experience and no way reflects in those (like Jen) that actually had their tables all setup and were organized by the time the doors opened. I do hope in time these shows will mature and attract more vendors, Medford did after all seem like an interesting town to visit if we had had more time to cruise around. All I'm saying is that if you do plan to go out of your way for this show, keep an open mind and don't have too high of expectations like we did. And there is also the Eugene show which is put on by the same guy coming up in March I believe.

As far as the other shows in Oregon & Washington(Unique Animal Expo, Portland Metro Reptile Expo and the Northwest Captive Breeders Show, while all are decent shows (we go to all of them), they all collectively do not even remotely compare to the NARBC show in Anaheim. The NARBC is really the king of shows!

So really, while we might have more quantity up here in Oregon & Washington (let's just forget about the east coast :nyah: ), in California, they got quality! :dancer:

LOL. no need to apologize Troy it is water under bridge for me. I am glad you thought I was one of the vendors who had my act together! I hope I get it together in other departments of my life so I have the wherewithal to go check out Anaheim, sounds like that one is the 'can't miss' show as far as West Coast goes.

I honestly meant that sincerely Jen :) When we went to that show, I didn't know who you were at the time but I did remember and recognize you when we finally met you at the Portland show. I'm glad that we were able to meet again in Portland under better circumstances and hopefully we'll catch up with you at the Hillsboro show!

Seriously, the Anaheim show knocked my socks off. I really hope you get the opportunity to make it, you won't regret a minute of it (unless you don't have enough money to buy all the stuff you'll find there, believe me, it's crazy :crazy02: ).

I know you meant it, and I wanted to say I also enjoyed meeting you very much. I guess I should clarify, that LOL in my previous post wasn't meant as sarcasm, but for this smiley making fun of east coast :nyah: because that actually did make me 'laugh out loud'
I am trying to cut down on my LOL usage in general I think it's just a bad habit, like ending my sentences with... I know I do that as well and it probably drives people crazy.
I think what I am going to do is put the date down for Anaheim in my calendar now, so come what may I can still plan to be there if it becomes at all possible.
Medford, too, is a maybe at this point. I live further away from there than I used to. I wish it was held just a few weeks later in the season, my eggs have always just hatched in July which means any corns I have haven't had as much time to establish as I like. I am still probably going, as I may have other friends with hatchlings ready I can take.
