i just got my corn yesterday and he already pooped in the water so i changed it and when i did he was doing that rattle snake thing with his tail. has this happen to anyone before? is this normal for a snake in a new environment or what???

Normal for some. He's just acting all big and scary in hopes the big and scary critter in front of him (you) will go away.

Leave him to get used to things for a few days before handling him (in case someone hasn't mentioned that already). Then, to reduce some of your scariness when you do pick him up, try to approach from the side rather than directly overhead. His little brain tells him attacks of the "lunch-making" kind come from above.

mine has done that when i startled him. i let him alone for a minute and then picked him up and he was ok

so if im holding him and he starts ratleing should i put him away or keep holding him and show him im not afraid

he probably wont rattle while u are holding hum. he will rattle if he feels threatened, like when he sees a huge hand coming toward him, lol. i would give him a minute, then hold him.

You should generally continue to hold them until they stop the negative behavior and calm a bit. Then return them to the viv. They will quickly learn that the negative behavior doesn't get them anywhere. Sometimes it takes a few of them longer than others (my one female for instance) but they usually all eventually calm down.

Some snakes do rattle when being held. Connor is a really enthusiastic rattler, lol. He rattles when I go to pick him up, and again when I'm holding him.

This is fairly normal behaviour. Don't worry.

By the way, don't forget there is a very good search feature on this forum. If you have questions, you can always run a search to get some quick answers :)

Exactly, always leave each handling session on a good note with both you and the snake...
