rattling its tail

Yes, It is scare of you. that why it rattles it's tail. Once it gets use to you, your smell. The snake will be fine.

Good Luck

I know when I got my first corn, the tail rattling really bothered me as it was kinda scary. But dont let your snake get away with no handling, I know when I jumped back he thought he had an extra edge. Frequent handling should fix that problem. None of mine do that anymore.

Usually mine would get in strike mode, musk, and tail rattle at the same time, so your lucky yours is only rattling its tail lol.

Um yes
Ive been getting problems with mine rattling its tail and striking me.. I lost confidance and he now has the upper hand :(
What ive just started doing is wearing thin rubber gloves.. I now have plenty of confidance and hopefully ill get back in control and then loose the gloves.

PS picked him up last night with gloves and he struck me twice.. no problems though with these welding gloves .. LOL... only joking

All they're doing is a bad impression of a rattlesnake. He's feeling threatened and wants to ward you off. Don't be scared by it, just take care how you go about removing him from his vivarium.

Good luck.

I went to my local pet store the other day and they breed their corns at home. I saw one with beautiful markings and wanted to hold it so the guy was about to take it out but it started rattling its tail and strinking. I was so shocked, I am new to corns and was suprised that they did that. It turns out he was not for sale due to a birth defect, he was not expected to live that long. However, he is very strong and is doing well, supposedly the lady who breeds them will take anything in and take care of it. I thought that was pretty cool since a lot of people would have euthenized the poor thing. At least it is getting a shot to live.

Paul here from Ottawa Reptiles, as mentioned above some corns (especially at a young age) are flighty and agressive. With plenty of handleing they will grow out of this behavior. I breed these beautiful snakes myself.

my boa used to do that, and one of my corns get's a little fiesty sometimes too. but, as everyone is saying, normal handling is key. some tips: 1)wash your hands before, and after, you handle your snake(s). sometimes they can get the scent of food from something you handled earlier. so, make sure they're clean, preferably with a non-smelly soap. 2) when they're new, i put a sock in the viv. one i wore that day. it smells like me, and i leave it in there for a few days. the normal period where you leave them to get used to their surroundings. that can help, sometimes. 3) when you do start handling them, and they're biting you, let them bite. but, DO NOT pull away. their teeth can come with you. which is not a good thing. they're tiny so their bite doesn't hurt. i've had worse splinters! :) they'll get over the biting thing very soon, and they should get used to your smell comming in the viv, not rubber gloves so much. i also would suggest handling them a couple of times in the day. maybe one in the am, and one time in the pm. leave your hand in there a while, let them get used to it, then take them out. don't just reach in there and grab them away from their homes! the last time a big hand came out of the sky and grabbed me, i didn't like it so much!!! :crazy02:
there are a few tips for handling new snakes. unless they're poisionous, then just don't handle them. ;)
