Raw Feeders (Dogs)

They rarely choke on raw...Mine throw up if they eat it frozen. Two will eat anything you feed them, one will eat nothing but chicken and pork...and organ meat only if you hide it really, really well.

I actually started scraping plaque off my own teeth as well and I didn't tell my dentist but my last two visits they were like "keep up the great brushing and flossing!" Hehehe

I have a dental scraper too....I have one for the dogs and I have a dental pick for me. No plaque on my teeth!!

Have you guys read the BARF Diet books?

There are several out there. The best one is titled "Give Your Dog a Bone." It's a great read and something I HIGHLY recommend to raw food feeders. I bred and raised working dogs for over a decade and fed raw in my program. I'm a big believer in the diet and the benefits. There is a lot to making the diet work right. A little of everything is generally the best concept. The book explains the ideas and concepts...

Seriously the holy bible for raw diet!

best..Chet

I have a good raw diet that's pretty simple that I got from a fellow dog trainer. If you want it Nanci, let me know and I'll forward the e-mail to you that he sent to me.

I gave the dogs an egg tonight. They had NO idea what to do with it, and ate all their kibble with kefir without touching it. So I cracked the eggs, and they licked the contents. I held the shell to Rose, and she figured it out right away. Ella took a little more convincing, but she ate the shell, too.

I placed my first frozen dog meat order! From My Pet Carnivore. 15 pounds of green beef tripe, 5 pounds of lamb kidney, 3 pounds of lamb liver. $3.64 shipped, which isn't too bad for something I can't find locally (tripe). I'm hoping to buy most of the meat for around $2/pound.

What a nice company. Every month they choose a dog or cat charity, and make a donation based on sales of a certain product. For instance, November's product is beef tripe, and the charity is German Shepherd Rescue Indy. It looks like the donations range from $60 to almost $300. That's nice of them.

They have a delivery route through Indiana, Ohio, Michigan, Kentucky, Tennessee and Illinois. And ship to elsewhere. I wish I was on their route!

Just some pics!

Cute dogs!

Thanks! That last one, Bella, is gone now. Cancer, last July. She made it almost two years after diagnosis.

So sorry for your loss.....She was beautiful! I'll have to calculate the cost of the meat as far as feeding my three. It got to be too much between the dogs and the cats....

So I spent the day at work today doing my 80 (meat) 10 (bone) 5 (liver) 5 (other secreting organs) calculations. It looks like if I feed my 50# dog half a chicken, once a week, that pretty much uses up the bone allowance, so all the rest has to be made up of non-bony meat, and organs.

I'm already starting to add kefir, (read about it- OMG, awesome!!) and am going to find some organic turmeric and use that daily, too.

Ella's dinner. Chicken, kefir, freeze-dried blueberries.
I served it frozen, so she would have to chew better.

Wow- cell phone pic is hooj!!

Looks like a Southern meal.....chicken fried steak with white gravy! I like that My Pet Carnivore mix of organ meat. My one dog may eat that and you don't need much of it to satisfy the organ meat requirement.

My dogs would require 17 oz total a day for the one, 21 oz. a day for the other ridgeback and 8 oz. per day for my beagle mix. The organ meat mix from that site you use would be pretty affordable. I'd only need .9 oz, 1 oz and .4 oz of organ meat for each.....the rest would be meat and bone. Usually chicken backs or legs will satisfy the meat/bone ratio. I just remove the skin from the backs as they contain too much fat. Might be affordable........aside from it being a pain in the butt to cut all of it up...but with the organ meat already ground that's very helpful. I could portion out the meals and thaw out what I need for the next few days like I do the cats. They are a lot easier though since they eat whole raw prey....f/t rats. The ratio is already built in.

I calculated it out if I got the 5 lb chicken mix that has everything in it, and it would cost me about $172 a month to feed my dogs...a lot more than what I'm paying now.....

I don't even know what I'm paying. Well- I bought one 30# bag the last two months. So one pound of kibble a day??? 5 cups. $47/month.
