I have a real bear skull that came from someone who used to have a corn snake, that died. I'm still not sure if I want to use the skull, but if I do, how long and at what temp should I bake the skull to make sure its safe for my corn?
 
I might be wrong but i don't think his question was regarding the preservation of the skull but the cleaning and making sure it had no bugs or anything. How many minutes in the oven? I gave my opinion, which i believe is the norm, but it could be different if you disagree. oh btw where i know your in this thread, or is Lori doing with the feeding problem?
 
You can boil the skull with just a little bleach, very little, as it will eat away the thin bone, then let it dry for a couple days in the sun. It will get it really white, and any bleach residue will evaporate. After it's dry, give it a light mist of Matte Finish to make cleaning easier next time...
 
Won't drying it in the sun defeat the purpose, since your putting it back outside where new bugs could get back into it? JW

The Matte finish will seal it, and I think he's concerned about Corn killing germs on it... I don't believe you have to worry about bugs because there isn't any flesh... I hope...
 
sounds good so far, i like the sun bleach idea. A combination of methods may work too. Boil/bleach it, sun bleach it outside, bring it in, bake it, then coat it. Sounds good. There's no flesh on it that I see, it fairly old from the looks, and definately could use some cleaning.
