Hi everyone..

You may have seen my other posts as i have just recently aquired my 1st corn snake..
Ive had it for 6 days now and it was due a feed the day i got it but it still hasnt eaten 6 days later..

I thought it was going into blueing/shed as its head was looking pearlescent-ish and his eyes were "milking up"and it got worse and milkier for 3 days...now his eyes are totally clear....head is the same and body , nose etc and it still hasnt eaten....

The snake is approx. 5 weeks old and has had 1 shed as far as i know and has take frozen/thawed pinkies readily before i took it...

Please please help me as im so confused as to whats happening and the last thing i ever want to do is let the snake down as ive only ever had snakes of 2 years or above and have never brought up a hatchling before...

Thanks so much in advance..

some snakes don't eat when they are about to shed , you said he was in blue and the eyes just cleared ..in a few days it should shed... just try to feed after shed... also how do you feed ? do you just plop the mouse down and wait? i like to wiggle the mouse with tongs or large tweezers... then you get a really good strike.

good luck

You've had the snake 6 days and it hasn't eaten yet? Well no worries! Maybe your guy is still settling in, and most likely he's about to shed as well.

I would advice that you don't try to feed your snake constantly, because that will upset him. Stick to your scheduled feeding day.

I'm having food troubles with my girl as well. But she hasn't eaten for about 3 weeks...I've tried pretty much everything. I guess I'll just keep trying and hope she changes her mind...good luck with yours :)

Well that won't be helping, trying to feed so frequently. I recommend you don't try again for 5 days or so.

If your snake continues to refuse food however there are various things you can try. I would recommend cutting the backs of the mice to increase the smell, etc. I personally feel this is good practice and I do it regardless of how good a feeder my snake is.

Remember, don't panic. Six days is nothing to worry about, especially since you only just got the snake.

Just to make the shedding thing clear: they go into blue (milky eyes, deadened colour) about 6 days pre-shed. Then they look like nothing is going on just to freak us out (1/2 days pre-shed). Then when you least expect it, you check on them and they look happy, healthy, and obscenely well coloured, and there is a skin or part skin in the tank :)

Don't worry...
I have had some feeding concerns in the past.

More than likely, your snake is about to shed, just leave it alone until you see some shed skin, or wait about a week or so before trying again.
If it still doesn't seem hungry, there are some other things you can try.

I once had a hatchling that did not eat for over a month. Some are just picky (and he was not in shed). He bounced right back, and was eating regularly afterwards!

Try using

Well hey guess what !!

Ive have just got home and my snake has shed since i have been to work !!
complete shed...complete skin...obviously no troubles at all (there even the skin pattern in the shed skin which i have never really seen so brightly before...

The snake is all over the place and wont sit still for 2 seconds ... BUT .................still shows no interest in pinkies... still.. Waved in front of him/her or smacked round the fadce with it... ( not literally but you know what im getting at )

Pease help me as this is the one time its supposed to eat :shrugs:

My snake wouldnt eat when I got him, just stuck him in a tub with a pinkie and a water dish for the night covered over and he scoffed it. Just a settling in thing, but remember they can go a month or so at that age without food.

Most hatchlings get scared when you bring a pinky close to them out of nowhere... especially wiggling it around their heads. Try to gently and slowly put it close to her nose with a tong, if it pulls its head away, try again SLOWLY till it accepts it is there close to its nose and then pull it away from its nose... repeat when not reacting. My scared hatchling went after it the 2nd or 3rd time.

Thanks Blutengel,
I will try this the next time i feed it and hopefully it'll work for me too :)

It still hasnt eaten and i havnt tried since friday ( now monday lunch time here in the UK ) so should i leave it a few more days or try again tonight???

It still looks healthy and is alert and loves being handled.... When it sees my hands by the container its in it constantly comes to my hands and climbs aboard and never tries to get out any other way..As if it wants to be in my hands you know :shrugs:

But this has really taken me and i dont wanna lose this little one as ive never had a snake thats behaved like this before...

Thanks again

A. Devil

Nice little snake. Best policy would be no handling at all in case the non-feeding is stress-related. Try a pinkie about wed evening, leave overnight in smaller feeding tub with small water dish in there in case the snake gets thirsty. If the pink is still there in the morning, try again saturday, with no handling in between.
If you still have troubles after this, pm me as I have 1 day old live pinks so you could try 1 for your snake if you need

Thanks Diamondlil ,

Ill follow your advice as it sounds very good and ill wait until wednesday with no handling etc...I also noticed you have a few corns and im sure you know exactly what your on about

Thanks for also asking me to P.M if need be ..
