Refreezing food?

crazyforcorns

My snow refused his pinkie tonight. It was thawed in warm water, and I have him about 2 hours and he didn't touch it. I refroze it, though thought maybe that wasn't a good idea.

Would I be able to reuse that pinkie?

Thanks
Kathy

I've done it before with no ill effects. In fact I thawed out 20 mice today and didn't remember until right before I was leaving for work. They hadn't been thawed more than an hour so I threw them back in the freezer and will try it again tomorrow. I'll only do that once, though. I would not let them thaw for a long period and then refreeze or refreeze multiple times.

Hi,

If the food has been defrosted in the fridge and has never been alllowed to reach room temperature it is most likely safe to refreeze. If the food has been defrosted by any other means it is likely to be unsafe to refreeze.

NB. This advice is for human foods but I'm sure it's just as applicable for snakes.

I hope this helps.
