refreezing pinkies

Is it safe to refreeze a thawed pinkie mouse? My butter corn isn't wanting anything to do with eating today it seems. He has been in his feeding container for about an hour now and will poke around but not eat. Last time he ate just fine, so i think ill try again in a couple days. would it be dangerous to feed a pinkie that was refreezed?

I wouldn't risk it. Once defrosted, bacterial growth starts. Left in a warm environment with the snake it would have multiplied and refreezing won't kill it.

Throwing the refused pinkie and offering a fresh one next time, will be a lot less bother than dealing with a regurge caused by a bad one.

ok thanks, thats what i was thinkin but wanted a second opion from someone more experienced. Actually, as i was writing the original post, my little guy decided it was time to eat :)

LOL! Yep, that sounds about right for a Corn! They know just how to press our Worry Buttons....

I have written about this topic several times. For the most part, I agree with Bitsy, but there is a bit more to it than that. Everything is going to depend on time. I don't worry about this problem all that much. I have too many snakes that will eat, but in the past, I have refrozen pinks.

Here are a few links that may help.

In closing the greatest rule to follow is, "When in doubt, throw it out!"

Good luck and I hope it helps!

I don't think an hour is that bad for a refreeze (I wouldn't ever do it more than once), but IF it caused a problem it certainly wouldn't be worth it.

My husband said it's alright to refreeze one time; but I wouldn't risk it. I don't like to waste feeders so I watch my snakes to see if they're in a striking mood. I did earn myself a bite for my trouble.
