Regure again!

I got my 4 newest snakes in August 22nd. I fed them 5 days later, and Corwin regurged. I fed him heads, and then half pinks. The past couple feedings were full pinkies, and he did great. I fed them 4 days ago, and while cleaning his cage today, I found a regurged pinkie under his hide. So, back to heads I guess. My question is, Will I have to deal with this his whole life? Or will he get it figured out? This is stressing me out, lol. Chester was always a great feeder, even in shed.

Hmmm...

The cause of MOST regurges is usually one of two things (there are other causes too of course):

1. Prey size too big, I think this is unlikely as you have been feeding him full pinks for a few feedings without problems.

2. Incorrect Temperatures. I would check and recheck my temp set up.

How often are you feeding btw?

I would give him about 10days and then try feeding again, a smaller item.

Best of luck! I HATE regurging snakes! Stresses me out so much!

Bad luck. I'd add nutribac or GSE to the water and follow the regurge protocol again.
If the temps are good you could consider parasites as a possible reason, maybe take a fecal to a vet to get it checked?
Then you have the possibility of crypto. Not a nice subject but if the regurges aren't due to heating issues, prey size, stress or parasites, it may be the cause of the problem.

Awww I'm sorry I am going through this right now. Its hard! Hope everything works out & get some Nutribac. I am using it next time on Banana's feed.
Hang in there! :)

Also, I don't think I would try to move him back up to full pinks so quickly.. I schedule like 4 smaller feedings after a regurge, just to give them time to really get the stomach juices flowing.
If his regurge was a whole pink, maybe go back to halves, but keep him on halves for longer this time.
Don't forget to check the temps first and wait the ten to fourteen days! You'll be fine, as long as he wants to still eat, there's still hope!

Thanks Everyone. Im not sure what Nutribac is, but I will check it out. Tom e, I fed him heads, and then halves for many many feedings, I was worried to go back to wholes. Last week he got a whole and ate it fine, this week he didnt. The temps are fine and I use the smallest pinkie I can find, so I dont know. Im going to wait atleast 10 days for sure, just like I did last time. Also, Im feeding them every 5 days. I make sure they have digested the meal completely and pooped before I feed them again though. I dont know of any reptile vets near us, but I will check in on it. Thanks again everyone.

Are you cutting slits in the pinks backs to make them more digestible? I'd do that, too.

You get Nutribac from Kathy Love http://www.cornutopia.com

I have an adult habitual regurger- I put Nutribac on all her mice- just a little pinch back by the tail.

How old is your Corwin?

I was doing a 'ten day wait' and my Sugar died. 10 days seemed like a long time to wait for a small snake. I couldn't help but wondering f I'd fed her within 7, a pinkie head, if she would have made it.

I am probably wrong, and don't take my advise until the experienced members have weighed in on it. I realize it helps them build digestive juices (waiting) but it seemed too long.

How long a HEAKLTHY hatchling can go without food and
how long an UN healthy hatchling can go should be different shouldn't they?

Please correct and advise.
Thanks.

Thanks, Nanci. Kathy Love told me about slitting the pinks when I bought the snakes from her, but I had forgotten. I will remember to do that. I will go write it down on his Index Card right now so I remember. Thank You for the link as well. I will go check it out.

Tracy, Corwin hatched June 12th. I dont think its too long for him, personally. I have waited 10 days before when he regurged in August and it didnt seem the faze him at all. Im a newbie as well though. But since Kathy Love and other people here told me to wait 10 days or so, that is the plan. If they dont know what they are talking about, we are all in trouble!

Ain't that the truth!
Cheers to those who came before us and did the hard stuff so we could have an easier time of it : ):dancer:

I'm hanging in there w/ you! My butter regurged back to back so he has been w/out food forever now. He is still alert/active. So come Tues. (10day wait) Banana will get his small pink slit w/ nutribac. Its tough & your not alone. My guy is about 4 to 5mths old weighing 30 something grams. So he is still holding a steady weight, I think that you should weigh & keep track of that. Make sure there's not a huge weight loss. I am new to this too, so I know how frustrating it is. Hang in there, not much longer!! :)

Well, he was out and about today. He was watching me clean my room, so I guess he is still alive, lol. I'll let you all know how his first feeding goes.

Just chkin' in on you. How are you hangin in there? Banana ate last night thawed pink slit w/ nutribac & had been in hiding all day. Grt sign! No regurge! WooHoo. My poor guy went 21 days w/out food, somehow had a shed & stayed at a steady weight of 35g. Go figure. They are tough pets I tell ya!
Keep us updated!

Corwin is doing pretty good, Thanks for asking! I fed everyone yesterday, but it hasnt even been 10 days yet, so Im waiting to feed him. I see him out and about just about every day, so he's doing ok, but he's still so tiny! He's gained 1 gram since I got him I think. He's a little skinny thing. The rest of the snakes a chunky. But hopefully he will hold down the rest of the mice and put on some weight!

When is he's feeding? 2.5 days in for us & no regurge. UGH can't wait til your guy eats!! waiting patiently for you!! :uhoh:
