Reptile Room

TripleMoonsExotic

I <3 Stripes!
I have just moved into my new apartment and wanted to share some pics of my "Reptile Room." The racks pictured are from snake shacks (LOVE THEM!). A friend of mine is building me a 12 tub (31qt) rack for my adults this weekend. I'll be taking pictures of that and posting then too. Once I get everything put where I want it...I'll take more room pictures! :crazy02: See that empty hatchling racks? That's for the babies I'll be producing this season (corn snakes and leos)!

that is a very nice looking rept. room i would love to have one of my own- but my mom wont let me - heck i just got my first corn less then a wwek ago and i want more but i still need to find somone who is selling mice - i live in chester co. P.A and almost no one sell mice :flames: burn pet co they want $12.00 for 6 pinks :crazy02: :crazy02: i am going crazy

I arranged a deal with another corn keeper in PA. I can ship UPS ground for $6.50 (will arrive in 1 or 2 days) + cost of dry ice (which I haven't gotten around to checking yet). He is going to pay for the initial styrofoam box, and then ship it back to be USPS when he gets his feeders (costs him $2 to ship an empty box). We're going to keep reusing the box and he'll get 1-2 months supply of feeders at a time.

Mouse Pinks - $0.25/ea
Mouse Fuzzies - $0.30/ea
Mouse Hoppers - $0.35/ea
Sm Adult - $0.50/ea

Rat Pinks (size of Fuzzies) - $0.30/ea
Rat Fuzzies (size of Hoppers) - $0.35/ea
Rat Pups (size of Sm Adult mouse) - $0.50/ea

Those bins in the right corner of the pic are my 31qts that are having a rack built for them.

See the shiney stuff in between the top 2 tubs in the 2nd picture? 11" heat tape is run along the backs of those racks. The same will be happening with my custom rack. The 31qts that are not in a rack yet are being heated with heat rope.

I am EXCITED now!!

I just ordered 2 Snake Shacks from Casey yesterday!
The same as yours...except I have two of the 32 quart sweaters and the rest are the 15 qt shirtboxes...

They are REALLY sweet from everything everyone has told me...and you cannot beat the price.

Thanks for the information and inspiration.

I love Casey's racks. I wouldn't choose another brand to buy. I always have my racks 3-7 days after I order them (I have four sitting there). The reason why I caved to make this rack is that it's going to cost me $150 to make a 12 hole rack for those special tubs of mine...and Casey was going to charge me $150 for a 3 hole with my tubs...I didn't particular want to go with wood (it's so easy to move these racks!)...but I need the racks ASAP and don't have $600 to spare...

Casey's racks are great. I have 9 at this time and will be getting more. He is also a great guy to deal with.

Casey and Darla have both been GREAT to deal with...can't wait to meet them. Genuinely nice, nice people.

I guarantee I will be purchasing more racks from them in the future, and I haven't even gotten my first ones yet!
They definitely came highly recommended (by more than just you fine people! :) )

Well I finally got the rack all set up and running. I'm very pleased with it! My friend got all fancy with it! :crazy02: I just wanted it simple...but he wanted trim and this and that. I'll need another one in another year, and he's not looking forward to building a copy. Says he's going to do it differently next time. So that I have matched custom racks, he's going to build me two and we'll sell this one. So if anyone likes the looks of it...I'll be selling it next season (PA/MD area)! I'm actually trying to convince him to build about a half dozen custom display cages to take down to MARS with me if I decide to get a table down there.

This is actually attempt #2, which is why it took so long. We screwed up the first one...but it's going to be turned into a display cage instead. He's also going to build me a beardie unit for my pair of Snows. :) Lots of projects! Only problem thus far with this rack is the lower part is cooler then the top (15 degree difference)...If their are any suggestions on how to correct this, please let me know! Their is 2 strips of 11" heat tape running along the back.

I would be interested in one of the racks.....:)

VERY nice rack...

Almost too elaborate...you could either run belly heat instead of back heat...or build a back for the unit (hard to tell, but with a 15 degree difference I would assume it is backless). That should help stabilize your temps...I would think.

The rack does have a back on. It's a solid piece of the same stuff the holed wood is made of (I have no idea what it's called - wood is wood to me).

My problem with the flexwatt...It was our first time working with it...and I spent $46 on the 6' I needed plus the cords and clippey things (jeeze, I make a whole lot of sense). If we knew how to wire it so that I didn't have to have a cord for each piece of flexwatt, then belly heat would be workable (also would have to figure out a way to cover the flexwatt so the tubs weren't rubbing against it).

howiet4702 - Shoot me an email with what specs you would need including tub sizes (ones pictured are 31qt). If you're interested in this one specifically, I'll talk to Gebhart about starting on my other 31qt custom pair.

Wow...EXPENSIVE...where did you buy it?

Check out www.MGreptiles.com for flexwatt by the foot at a decent price. Matt Graybeal (Justcage...he is a forum member here) is a GREAT guy...and will walk you through anything you could possibly need to do. He will also custom wire the flexwatt for you...if you give him the spec.

If you need better directions for serial wiring flexwatt (only one cord with all the pieces connected) try www.arbreptiles.com . Clay Davenport (I believe ALSO a memebr of this forum) has great instructions WITH pictures. And some great tips.

Also have heard...although never used it...the silver insulator tape works great for covering your flexwatt on the shelf so the tubs don't mess it up.
Might want to ask that question of some other people...Matt could probably help you...he knows a ton about heat...and sells all the good products...at good prices...I wouldn't buy heating supplies from anyone else. His customer service is OUTSTANDING. Just got 2 thermos from him this week...I payed for them Friday afternoon...I had one by Monday morning...and the other yesterday.
