ReptileFest again in Chicago!

Cegninedorf

Twang'em into trees!
Hey!

This weekend is ReptileFest in Chicago -- www.reptilefest.com hosted by the Chicago Herpetological Society. It was a lot of fun last year -- and I'm going to be in charge of the corn snake trees/handling area again this year! I don't know if I'll be on my own or with help to talk to/help the 500+ people that all want to hold my corns, but I know it will just be a good time had by all. :) This year, aside from gallons of hand sanitizer, I'm even going to be armed with little activities for the kids to take home with some care-taking info, just in case I get some enthusiasts. :) I'm planning to take Caramelo & Fritz again, as well as Maizie, Bellerouge, Schnee and ShugaBoog. Hopefully they've all "emptied" out enough that there won't be any mishaps...:uhoh:

Anyway -- if you're in the Chicago-area, stop on over at the UIC Pavillion. I'll be the one with the corn snakes & wearing my corn snake shirts. :) I'll be sure to give a review of the exhausting weekend next week. :wavey:

I'm actually visiting the parents this weekend, so I'll be close. I might have to DRAG them over there. :)

I'm going to stop by on Saturday. Make sure you have all the right answers:p

just kidding. Never been to the reptile fest thought I'd check it out. See you there.:dancer:

Be sure to say hello! :wavey: I'll give you all of the answers that I can...:)

Went to Reptile Fest today. It was so much fun! If you're in the chicagoland area you should definatly check it out!

It was really nice meeting you Cegninedorf (& your BF)! You answered all the questions pefectly ;)

Thanks, WikedL! It was good meeting you, as well. Thanks for enduring the crowds -- mostly excited & eager kids! -- and playing with some of my snakes...:)

I also got a chance to reunite with Erin/ILOVECORNSNAKES, who I met at Fest last year. She fell in love with Fritz, so it was a surprise for her to see how much he has grown in a year! Here we are in our matching corn shirts. (It soooooooooo was not planned! And, Erin, I swear that I will never forget your name again! I'm surprised that I even remembered my own by the end of the day...:p)

So! For all of those of you who *couldn't* make it, here are quite a few photos from the weekend. Granted, a number of them are from my exhibit -- the corn trees -- because I was there most of the time. :) However, we got a chance to walk around the fest after hours and see some of the other exhibits. The fest looked almost twice as packed & equally as busy as last year's fest. The crowd stayed steady the entire time! It was hard to finally break away for a lunch break! But, it was a fun & exhausting time of it...the snakes quite eagerly settled right back in to their tanks once finally home. :)

Enjoy! :wavey:

First, the official exhibit (with Maizie trying to make a subtle escape to Caramelo's "holding tank"...and some of the other deciding that the grass is greener on the other side...):

Some snake-orgy madness...

Caramelo's one foray onto a tree -- until I decided that I'd rather that he stay in a tank because of his getting into his pre-shed phase...

So, into a "holding tank" he went, only to decide that the ball pythons next to us looked like more fun...

To be continued...

Then...!

Four of my more adult tree-size corns...:)

ShugaBoog the lavender & Schnee the snow stripe...

Shuga & Schnee again...just too cute. :)

Maizie the unamused amel & Fritz the antsy anery (whenever he came near her, she would take off to the other tree...I think that she finally got tired of his shenanigans here...):

And, Bellerouge the very patient & very shy normal...she really refused to be dislodged from the tree, and once on, she didn't move. I just left her alone & let her be there for show so people could see a smaller-sized normal. My poor mademoiselle...:)

Last, onto some of the other exhibits...!

Alligators!

I have never been this up-close to an alligator before...but I really wanted to look at one face on & just see his/her teeth and eyes...amazing.

This alligator has an interesting story: during a drug raid, he was found as a 12-inch lil'guy in a tank. The authorities who cleaned out the house of the animals found him & removed him from the tank using some kind of snake equipment, which pinched a nerve in the alligator's neck, thereby destroying a connection in his nerves that causes him to become severely unbalanced. He can eat, and his quality of life isn't necessarily kaput, as the man who took him in (highly trained, specializes with alligators) has him separated from his other alligators as he needs longer to eat. Tenacious little fellow. :) (I'm sorry that my details are rather vague, but I was too fascinated with watching the little alligator...)

There was also a baby alligator tank...these guys were posing at the very end of the day today!

A very handsome white beardie...

And look at this: the skull of a bearded dragon. How neat is that?!

Finally, these two cracked me up: doesn't this photo look like they should be the Uromastyx Mafia??? With the Godfather in the back??? What dramatic lighting will do for anyone/anything...!

And one more...

Thanks for looking! :wavey:

that looks like so much fun. i wish i coulda gone. great pics, like the mafia pics

Thanks! :) You totally made my day by just looking at them. :)

By the way, Reptilefest broke its previous record-breaking year -- which was last year -- by having over 6000 people over 2 days this year. Amazing. And I bet that I talked to almost all of them because wouldn't you know it? The kids love the corn snake trees because then they can hold the "little" snakes...:)

Thanks again!

I just now saw these pictures!
I remember you doing this last year I can't believe it's been a whole year already o_o!
I love all the pictures of the corns in the trees that looks so cool I'm glad you had such a great time spreading the good corn word!

Thanks! I took more than just the photos I posted, but that'd be like opening the wallet to show a photo of the kid & having the whole photo accordion come flying on out...:p

It was a great show, but it will take a year to recover from the exhaustion -- and I wasn't really a part of set-up/take-down. It was amazing.

Thanks again! I got a couple of new "groupies," too, this year. :) Lots of people took the info & seemed really interested. We'll see!

I was just wondering that myself.
With so many snakes, and so many people around how to do you manage to keep an eye on all your babies at once?

Great pics all around but I really love that one of Shug and Schnee looking down through the tree. Way too cute!
Looks like a great time for everyone involved!

I had sooo much fun with Christina!!!! Seroiusly, those of you who COULDNT make it, start planing for NEXT YEAR!!!! Its so something you don't wanna miss!!!!!(P.S. The pic at the begining ish of me, case u couldnt figure it out)
BTW- U asked how she managed to keep track of her babys? Well Sat. IDK about, but on Sunday, me n her BF were helping. Usually each of us had at least one, and one was on the tree the whole time (Bella) SO there was only really one that we had to keep our eye on.
