retained eye cap help

My little hognose had a retained eyecap (several sheds worth) when I got him. He shed and it was still there so I did the qtip method and it worked great. It was really hard to get off though, it was rock hard in the middle, but soft enough on the edges that I was able to work it out. I wish I had known about the pillowcase method though. I will remember this just in case it happens again! Glad to know it worked in this case.

I thought I read in one of my books that a way to get off a retained eyecap is to use scotch tape. I've never tried this, and it doesn't sound like a good idea to me anyway. Has anyone else tried this? Wish I could remember which book it was from......

I have tried this method, but i used scotch tape that i rolled over my skin a few times to it was just BARELY sticky. it didnt work in the end though...i think the mucus under the retained cap was dried so it was stuck, and the moist moss in a container ended up doing the trick.

i wouldnt recommend doing the tape thing lightly, i work with my hands and think have a very delicate touch, and this was pretty difficult to do and have it not look like the snake was uncomfortable or like i was hurting its eye.
Ive seen someone pull the eye out this way too, and it seems more dangerous and more like a last resort to retained eyecaps.
